Rafting in Durango
The last bit of our journey. We surfed back up these rapids for some extra fun at the end. Got to sleep in today. We took a 2 hour rafting trip down the Animas River with the Durango Rafting Company. The water is pretty low this time of year and even lower this year with the little rain they've had. Sean hopped out of the raft at one spot to test the water - a bit cold even for August. We passed under a number of bridges and bumped off of a lot of rocks along the way. Both Sean and Dean fell into the boat after a couple of these bumps. Only got hung up on a few rocks that we had to push off of and at the end we got to "surf" against the last set of rapids.
In the afternoon we headed north to Silverton along highway 550. Very scenic with beautiful mountain views and rarely a guiderail in sight. Not for the faint of heart. When we got into Silverton, we ate at one of our favorite spots, Handelbars. If you have a handlebar mustache they take your photo and hang it on the bar - the boys have challenged Dean to step it up next time and come with a mustache. I'm hoping
