Today we spent the day riding the narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton roundtrip. This is a 3 1/2 hour ride one way due to the steep grades and the dropping off and taking on of hikers at about the midway point. While we have taken this ride many times before, the scenery including the mountains and the Animas River is always beautiful. The train crosses the river about 6 times along the way to Silverton. The weather today started out cool but by the time we got to Silverton it was nice and sunny. While in Silverton we got a quick bite to eat and then walked around town and watched the train that came in before us leave. We also got to see a special train come with a vista car at the end - this car was left in Silverton for our train to take back to Durango. When we arrived back in Durango it was rainy so we walked around the station for awhile and then headed back to our hotel.
