On Saturday morning we left Monticello and drove south into Arizona and towards 4 corners. We had been doing almost 80 mph for 2 days and I continued this into Arizona. I was slowly catching up to another car when I saw an Arizona highway patrol go past us in the other direction. Oh crap! He threw on the lights and turned around and headed towards us. I had slowed to 65mph by then and happily watched as he blew by me and pulled over the car in front of us. After that we kept the speed to 70mph!
We soon arrived at 4 corners. I thought it was a national monument, so we showed the woman our senior pass and she said no, that it was on Navajo land and I needed to pay $3. OK. Just as I started to pull away she yelled at me that there was a second person in the car and it was another $3. If I had known that I would have put Stacy in the trunk! We walked around, waited in line and took our pics of us on the 4 corners monument.
After that we drove to Mesa
Verde National Park. Hooray, the pass worked there. We took a 1 hour tour of one of the villages set in the side of the cliff. It was really interesting. We had to climb up 4 ten foot ladders and climb some serious steps in a very narrow area. Stacy wasn't too happy.
After that, we drove to Durango for the night. We had an excellent Italian dinner at a resturant there called Mutu's Italian Kitchen.
