Andrew: Tuesday started off pretty well; we were in a new place, staying (comfortably) with friends, and we were starting to think about what our next moves were going to be. After sleeping in and waking up late, Sarah took us through town to find the grocery store so we could buy more food before we left. We ended up just buying some chili (a good purchase, unlike the refried beans from earlier) and some more chocolate chip granola bars. On the way back from the store, Sarah got a call from a friend of hers asking if we wanted to go to a concert that night at Red Rocks auditorium. Ryan and I weren't terribly enthused, since we didn't want to pay that kind of money, but Sarah quickly clarified that we would listen from ... read more

Edit 1: Ok, so, this is a repost from a few days ago. Turns out there's a bug with maps that have too many points, which explains all of the loading problems. I wasn't able to successfully delete the map without deleting the post (despite my best efforts) so I copied all of the text, deleted the old posts, and added this post without the map. Edit 2: Now with working map and pictures! Ryan: So, we haven't had internet for a few days, but a *lot* has happened. For starters, we're in Denver now. We got in on Sunday night at about midnight local time. Prior to that, we headed out from Andrew's dad's place on saturday. We had to head west because the highway to the east of us was flooded from the storms. ... read more

"Hey, are you going to be around this weekend?" "Yeah" "Ok..I'm booking my flights now, I'll see you in less than 24 hours" "Okay!" This was the phone conversation that I had with my friend Kristen literally a day before I headed out to Denver. I randomly landed an extra three day weekend, and I was not going to let it go to waste. Kristen had moved out to Denver back in October, and I told her that I would make my way out there at some point. You have to seize the opportunity when you can. I found really cheap round trip flights and I was on my way. Besides seeing Kristen, I had always wanted to get out to Colorado. My parents had been out to Durango a couple of times, and have raved ... read more

Thanks to the marvel of frequent flyer award flights, we managed to build in a little side trip from the South to North America to visit our lovely friends Tanya and Dav in Denver. Not sure whether it was good fortune on our part or magnificent planning on their part, but we were lucky to catch them just before they moved back to Sydney. (Not sure we would have been half as accommodating, and we certainly wouldn't have managed the air of organisation and relaxation that they did before we packed up home.) After months of sunny hot weather we were itching for a bit of a chill and the opportunity to strap on our snowboards. Although we were pushing the end of the snow season and fully expecting patchy slush, as luck would have it ... read more

On this pleasant March day, I decided to ride my bike to work. I took a few pictures along the way to and from the University of Colorado Denver 9th and Colorado campus. I was late to meet someone in the laboratory, hence I didn't take too many pictures inbound. I actually don't have many pictures at all! Work in progress... ... read more

Well, we both knew this day would come, but I don't think either of us were actually prepared for it. This morning came with the biggest tease ever..... 10'' of new snow at Breck, Vail, & Beaver Creek and it was still coming down! However, it also provided for nasty driving conditions on I-70. So this morning we packed up our things, watched the weather on TV where we watched cars on I-70 sliding into ditches and guard rails and what have you, and then checked the ski reports very sadly. Once we unburied our good friend Petey, and warmed him up for a few minutes we checked out of the room at the good ol' Comfort Suites and grabbed our last Continental Breakfast of the trip. Then we hit the road... very slowly... When we ... read more

Well, if you want to keep me occupied in the airport, feed me gin and tonics.... great way to kill a couple of hours. Of course, after 4 you kind of have to sober up before you can present yourself at the gate. Well, this prima donna decided to NOT take the earlier flight back home tonight (could have flown standby) because it would have meant giving up his exit row aisle seat in exchange for a middle seat. So, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a few hours in my favorite pub of the week... the airport bar on the upper level of the A Concourse in Denver. You know you travel too much when: 1. The bartenders at the airport bars recognize you and know what you drink. 2. You give directions to ... read more

Hello to all of you, The past year has been so incredible and we have finally settled into our new home. We are living in Denver, now. The city is great and so is the weather. We also are very lucky to have a whole crew of friends and family here (although, we would love to see more of you out here). Our place is small, but nice. Uncle Fred and my dad worked so hard to help us move. They drove all away out here with all of our crap and then helped us to actually move in. We really owe them so much. Thanks you guys! Sean is working again as a nanny and I am still looking for work. In the meantime, I can assure you all that I am the model housewife. ... read more

It may be approaching the end of January, but I'm still trying to capture Christmas on this blog. Here goes... As I mentioned in my last entry, I was heading to Denver, Colorado to visit family for the holidays. A series of flights (3) from Bangkok to Denver found me at my destination on the night of December 22, 2007. The flights were basically uneventful, and thankfully, not full. I had plenty of room to stretch out. Upon arrival in Denver, however, I quickly found myself with yet another cold. Those have been coming often recently, what with all the public transportation I've been using and the amount of students coming through my classroom (about 350!). However, it didn't dampen my trip much. We went out for my birthday dinner with the adults (mom, dad, sister, ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We left our cozy motel in Gothenburg and set out to see the Pony Express station in the town. Of course, we probably should have anticipated it, but it was closed for the season. It was interesting, of course, to see an original Pony Express station, but the tiny structure was in most respects, quite unremarkable. The Gothenburg museum was across the street, so we went to check that out. Unfortunately, during the winter it's only open on Saturdays, or by appointment, neither of which we had to spare. Not seeing much else of interest in Gothenburg, we hit the road again. We took I-80 as far as North Platte, where we exited to see the Buffalo Bill Ranch. Once again, winter struck. The Buffalo Bill Ranch has the home he built, a small ... read more
