Colorado has been amazing, and continuing with the American spirit we have experienced thus far, the people have been really friendly too. We arrived in Denver Colorado at 5.25pm, almost three hours later than we were initially scheduled for. Although it may not sound too much a lot happened in that time; for one, what was a sunny afternoon three hours earlier had begun to fade into the night, and secondly a front was coming in, which meant the one full day we had in Golden Colorado will probably be a miserable one. We were picked up from the airport by Jon, a work colleague I befriended last year in Sydney and his wife Julie. They proceeded to check us into our accommodation before inviting us to join them for some dinner at a local ... read more

Denver is a very outdoorsy town, and a very big town on physical exercise too, makes sense as I didnt see a single fat person in all of Golden! There's skiing in the winter and cycling in the summer, Chris is still trying to convince me to ski.... One thing that you hear about but you dont appreciate until you are there, is the change in the air as you get higher in altitude, and there really is a difference, headaches, nausea and tiredness, we have felt it all in the short time we've been here and there's still 80% of the air that you get at sea level, imagine being on Mount Everest where there is only 30%! A real treat for both of us was the unexpected snow, we were driving up towards the ... read more

Moving On September 20, 2009 Today we drove in and out of rain today as we traveled through IN, MO and entered KS. Sunday traffic in the cities of Indianapolis, St. Louis and Kansas City made driving easier. We spent the night in Lawrence, KS home of University of Kansas. It was a long day. Arrive in Colorado September 21, 2009 It was a gray morning with black, black clouds. As we traveled west it began to rain and lightning. The light was an otherworldly yellow-gray. We traveled the full length of Kansas and the gray clouds were always before us. It was very windy and rainy. We passed fields of sunflowers and a crop resembling corn, but shorter with rust red tassels Our first stop was to be Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, but a ... read more

This is a last minute trip. Things worked out, I thought I might be able to get a magazine article written and check out things on the west coast. Day 1 - Tuesday The plan was to get to Denver early. But my schedule the week before I left didn’t leave me anytime to pack so I was up until 3am packing then back up at 7:30am to load it all on the bike. I was beat before I ever started. I didn’t have any real stops planned, it was going to be a straight shot there. I wanted to be into Denver before it got late. Last time I took the long way. I was going to spend the first night with my cousins then Wednesday head to Wendover, UT and the Bonneville Salt Flats. ... read more

So I am passing my last few hours in the United States so I thought I would write an entry. So much has happened in the past week. Sam and I flew to Houston and met my parents to see my cousin, Andrea's, wedding. Sam and I waited for my parents in the Hobby airport for two hours and tried, with complications to watch the OU game. We ended up having to go to two different restaurants and buying appetizers that we did not eat in order to watch the first half. We met my parents and went to our hotel. The wedding was the next day and it was beautiful. Andrea and Brett have been dating for something like four years and many of us have already been considering him part of the family. I ... read more

Thursday night, we had a great time downtown. For a small town they had a good turn out. They closed off one of the streets and set up a big open sided trailer with a band up there. Cauldened off an area for the drinkers, people were just walking around browsing the shops, listening to the music. They had some kids activities set up at the back of it as well as some food stalls. It was the last one for the summer, by the sounds of it they had had them every thursday night for most of the summer. Friday, We biked down to a baseball diamond just down the road and played baseball with the 4 of us. Kids really enjoyed just getting out and running around, along with a bit of competetiveness in ... read more

The car is officially our home. Car chargers, dirty clothes, random fruit and bags of chips.... Our belongings are in every crack and crevice of that thing. If you're planning a trip out west and would like to hear some reviews, I'll make an entry at the end of places we have been to for sleeping, eating, and anything else I can't think of at the moment. Currently, I'm sitting in our room at a Holiday Inn in Colorado, Alex is sleeping, and it's only 9:35 p.m. We've been tent camping, but the need for wi-fi to e-mail freelance projects and electricity to juice up a few batteries brought us here. I didn't shower for almost four days. The layers of sweat, sunscreen, and Off were past due for being scrubbed off. We camped in ... read more

En ... read more

We are not visiting many cities and visiting Denver was a good break from our hiking boots. The city is not big and a lot of things can be done on foot (sandals this time). It is a clean and pretty city. We arrived in the evening and went to a bar were we had dinner while people were singing and dancing on the stage. We met a good bunch of people that evening. The next day we visited some of the main tourist points. We walked around the city centre and there are many old buildings still preserved. On our second night we went to a country dance club and enjoyed ourselves watching all sorts of line dancing and couples showing off their skills.... read more
