First Pit Stop
Matt at the good ol\' Loaf N\' Jug Today was our first official day of driving…the doctor said that my eye was still in pretty sad shape, but that we’d be ok if I kept going to doctors on the road every few days. My eye officially hates me, but at least its getting better! I can open it, so that’s always good news.
We decided not to go to Tulsa to see Katie and Kelley ☹ we figured it was bad timing, as Katie is sick and Kelley will be very busy, so we’re going to try and make it on the way back. So Dallas here we come!!! 15 hours on the road? No big deal.
We started driving at around 10 this morning and made it through Colorado, Oklahoma and are now conquering Texas! (No Marilyn, we didn’t get to Oklahoma and decide to turn around…) They say everything is bigger in Texas, and we now know what that means as one of the first things we saw was a sign for a 72 oz. steak! That’s a lot of steak. Some of the other things we encountered right off the bat were two huge Baptist churches, and a lot of open land with lots of
brown grass and bushes. Matt and I played “I Spy,” but it was hard to find anything other than the color brown, which made the game truly challenging. We’ve gone through a lot of really small towns, of which we always comment that, “I don’t know how the hell anybody lives here!”
The rest of Colorado and Oklahoma were also extremely boring. We did go through a town in Colorado named “Springfield,” go Simpsons! We are also being stalked by a huge Truck full of “Gold ‘N Cheese” a.k.a. Cheeze-Its!!! (Shel, you would be in heaven!) Overall, needless to say, we have been driving in the middle of nowhere; so have relied on the little things to give us amusement ☺
We did expand our minds a little bit in the car by listening to “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and some over-the-top electro-house music (we could only stand that for a little while) We also had a race outside of the car to get our legs moving in a gas station parking lot. Matt’s a little pansy, I was like a cheetah! (naa..matt won ☹ ) we have already realized the importance of movement after sitting in the car for
only 7 hours, but weve managed to keep ourselves entertained fairly well! The sunset was also really nice to look at, it gave us a nice visual break from the brown grass that encompassed the rest of the day.
We also spotted a sheep/horse show type event happening on the side of the highway and decided to pull over and go see whats up. We looked a little out of place with our road-apparel (everyone was pretty country-ed-out) but it was cool to see what was going on in the sheep world, and I got to see some ponies!
We pulled over in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Plano, Texas for the night. Our set up is pretty sweet to say the least. A little cramped, but it'll do the job! Matt made a 15 hour run for Texas today, so he was definitely feelin the wal-mart parking lot by the time we got there. For 15 hours it wasnt too bad (for me at least, I had a great time while matt was doing all the driving!)
Tomorrow we go to see an eye doctor (fun!) and meet up with our friend Molly who lives there. We cant wait
to see her! We’re looking forward to a great weekend in Dallas, and ready to get out of the car so we can dance to some honkey-tonk!
Im sure the entries after this will be slightly more amusing, but you can blame that on Colorado and Oklahoma! We’re both starry eyed and cant wait for what’s next!
Cheers!
