Stunning location and most beautiful place – Caves, mountains, roads, people, food, hotel – we loved the trip.
I have learned to be innovative when traveling. I am not talking about sending the satellite. Innovation can be for every small things - how effectively use the travel hours with kids, learn something new, create fun out of nothing, Kids sing along songs, effective use of IPAD, telling stories, romantic talk with spouse, remembering the sweet moments, talking about family & friends. Small is beautiful and small innovation leads to big happiness. It was 3 days trip.
Day-1: Being stayed in New York and very new to New Mexico, When I start the trip I was amazed by driving. The roads are straight, no traffic, speed limit 75 miles per hour - Really!! The horizon looks like sky touching the earth. I prefer the planning in driving time, so we all stay busy learning the place and what to expect. The sight seeing on the way are amazing, just pull over and spend some time to relax, take snaps, drink water - Very important during travel. Our goal was to reach the hotel at earliest to take enough rest and
get ready for next day.
When traveling with kids, you have to expect the unexpected. Leora got sick on the way. I do not know the place, but it was very local area I pulled over. I learned an amazing thing - no need to afraid anything about unknown place - when you are in trouble people come forward to help you. Leora got relaxed and felt better. The best idea to effectively plan the visit - List out the places to visit. Then put them all in the Google map with address. Then it is easier to plan the day. Here is the list we planed for next 2 days.
• Pikes Peak
• Garden of the Gods
• The Broadmoor
• Seven falls
• Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site
• Cave of the winds
• Colorado springs fine arts Center
• Royal Gorge Bridge
• Helen Hunt Falls
Day -2: Get up early and watch the sunrise at new place is my favorite thing to do in the morning. I drove up in the mountain and watched the most beautiful sunrise. It feels like absorbing the energy from Sun. By the time I came back Anita, Leora and Krish
are ready - Surprised. We had good breakfast at the hotel - Please do not miss good breakfast when you travel. We took a 1hour drive in the city to understand the place and then stopped at Garden of the Gods visitor Center. Its on the top of mountain, so we sat there for an our to enjoy the view of Red rocks, snow on top of the mountain, tall green trees and the landscape. We got enough information from the visitor center to spend the day. We drive though the Gardens of the Gods, Pikes peak and other places. We reached the cave of the wind around 11AM. No need to worry about the parking. People thee are very nice and will help you to get a parking.
Cave of the Winds: WOW!!! What an amazing creation of nature. We took the one hour tour of the cave. Beautiful, beautiful and stunning. Naturally air conditioned. The tour guide - Mr. Bryan - was nice and very knowledgeable about the cave. He asked any question - Leora says I have a Question - Why the Cave is dark? Could you please put the lights on. Smile goes on everyones
face!!! The tour guide walks in the front with a flash light. Krish asked him if he could be the line leader and can take the flash light. Bryan gave him the flash light and Krish became the tour guide/line leader. walking/climbing some steps inside the cave were fun and it was big fun for Krish and Leora as it was their first cave tour.
Later during our wandering day, we visited the Broadmoor. It was just an amazing hotel from outside. But when went inside, Its beautiful from all angles. The views of the green mountain range as backdrop to the lakeside are breathtaking. We spend a beautiful evening there. We took the boat for one hour and enjoyed the time in the small lake. The weather was perfect and kids were excited for their first boat ride. Life is worth when family has fun together.
The Bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life - Richard Bach.
Our next visiting point was 7 falls. But it was closed. So we visited the Helen Hunt Falls. This is the first time did not used
the GPS. Stopped every intersection and asked people on the direction. Just get a feelings of local people and trying new things.
Day-3: We dropped the plan for going sight seeing as Anita was not feeling well. It was straight 5 hours drive coming back to Albuquerque, NM. All the time planning does not work as expected. So taking quick decisions and acting on it is a lesson learned from the trip. Plan will not work, that will change you and prepare you for taking the quick decision. Back to home cures everything.
Super fun trip.
