The weather continues to control our visit here in this area. The mountain pass in the park is still closed and the skies over the mountains indicate that it is possibly snowing up there. The skies to the south of us were partially blue so we decided to head in the direction of Boulder and potentially better weather. Although Frank had researched the scenic routes well before the trip we made one slight detour was to the Colorado Welcome Center to gather more material and maps. Boulder is the home of The Flatirons and Chautauqua park. The Flatirons, named by pioneer women after the flat, metal irons used to press their clothes, are five large outcroppings of rock ranging from north to south along the east slope of Green Mountain. Information at the Chautauqua meadows told ... read more

I've been out on the road for two months now and just after my mile marker 2000, finally arrived in Boulder Colorado. The Rockies are so beautiful in the summertime - I've been surrounded by aspen groves, huge fields of wildflowers, mighty rivers, giant mountains, and raging waterfalls. I met some awesome cross country cyclists in Telluride who are headed west, and then Joyce, a telluride local, joined me for 5 days as we pushed up and over the high passes toward Boulder. It was great to have another adventurous spirit to keep me company on the road. Every mile could tell a million tales, so to spare you all 2,000,000,000 tales I've put in a bunch of pictures hoping they will give you all a glimpse of my travels. Much love from the mountains, Kyle ... read more

Summer in Boulder '09... Says it all! Highlights: -Finishing up my LAST trimester in school. I have learned so much! -As always, I'm climbing a lot, and LOVE IT! (see videos). Sometimes you have to cross a tyrolean to get to the crag. -I let my hair go curly... and stopped straightening it. -I'm leaving the country for 8 months. Flying out of San Francisco, I'm heading to Taiwan, then Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, China, India, Nepal, Israel, Jordan, etc. -Coming right back to Boulder afterwards. I love it here way too much to leave permanently! -I recommend you read, "Peace Between the Sheets" or the updated version: "Cupid's Poisoned Arrow." -Don't forget to watch the videos below... and make sure you have the sound on. :) Ciao, my friends. ... read more

I picked up golf a number of years ago because it was a business necessity. There is so much business conducted on golf courses - what I normally refer to as green meeting - that golf has become a prerequisite. How hard could golf be? I could hit a moving tennis ball and I couldn’t understand the difficulties of hitting a stationary ball. Was I wrong! After hitting so many trees (or houses) and losing so many balls into the ocean or lakes, I could appreciate the time and effort that professionals like Tiger Woods had put in the game. My game is alright. At least I don’t think I will embarrass myself. So I set up a golf outing with Bob, a friend and business associate. I took my normal Southwest flight to Denver and ... read more

I knew there was a reason I loved Boulder so much...in fact, there are tons of reasons. One of them just passed by, and I already can't wait till next year. The University of Colorado, Boulder also has the unique distinction of being the reluctant home to the largest gathering of people IN THE WORLD who celebrate the many benefits and uses of marijuana on the infamous day of 4/20. The annual 4/20 event at the University of Colorado Boulder is highly heralded throughout the year. April 20, at exactly 4:20 p.m., thousands of marijuana enthusiasts are expected to congregate on campus to smoke pot en masse. The years previously, the school had developed a bad rep among the students. The sprinklers would be turned on in the fields the students were gathered in. This may ... read more

Colorado! If you are athletic and love nature then this is the place for you. The scenery is amazing. Some times you forget that nature can be so dramatic. Flat Flat Flat and then the mountains are the only things that block your view. Because the land is so flat the mountains appear much closer than they actually are. I was amazed at the flatness. Land as far as the eye can see. Houses sit huge tracks of land. We drove from the Denver airport to Boulder where the University sits at the base of the Flat Irons. What a breath taking view! The mountains of North Carolina will never be the same. I set off on this adventure to visit one of my oldest and best friends from high school who is living in Boulder. ... read more

Hi, I'm setting up this blog while drinking my coffee. Not much of a NYE hang-over, but this cold I have is making me feel crappy. I still have packing decisions to make as the first time I packed did not work out so well. I have 5 hours till we leave. I should make it. We fly to LA, and then to Sydney, arriving there on Jan 3rd in the am. ... read more
