After a much needed sleep, Anna and I headed to Boulder for the day. It was around a 45 minute drive, but the drive was amazing. The whole way there we were heading towards the Rocky Mountains and it was just the most amazing sight...or so I thought. There was this really cool lookout point right on the highway. It was a little annoying that there were cars always blocking the photos, but it was still really cool. Once we hit Boulder, we took a wander down the main street. Most of it is pedestrian only, so its easy to just meander through. Anna took me to her favourite coffe shop, which she swore served good coffee. It was actually pretty good, but it was big. There were also some other cool stores, including a store ... read more

Ok South America. I'm coming back. As I recall, when we last parted I was getting comfortable with Spanish and feeling pretty good traveling on my own, but also a little road weary. Listen, it wasn't you, it was me. I had to leave you for a more familiar embrace for a while. Yes the United States was great, but she's a different entity compared to you. While it has been comforting to be in the land of great friends, familiar land, and a language i can understand 99 percent of the time, I've been missing you so much, that I'm coming back. But here's the catch. This time, it's to your sister to the North: Ecuador. Sorry, but I won't cry for you Argentina. Budgetary needs and geographical A.D.D. have forced me to warmer and ... read more

After a great time in the Rocky Mountains we headed to the University town of Boulder where we had a Couch-surf organized with Marty and Andrea. On the way Mary had looked up a few free things to do and the first stop was the Celestial Seasonings Tea Company. Discovered in Boulder in the late 60’s by a few hippies picking herbs from the mountains, it has grown into an international company that makes some pretty good teas. The aromatic factory tour lasted about 40 mins – the mint room was the best as the fragrance filled your senses and made our eyes water. To conclude we had a tasting session which was the best bit! Next stop was the Boulder Beer brewery, another free tour. We arrived at 2pm to catch the 30 minute tour ... read more

Boulder has to be one of the most amazing towns/cities I have ever seen in my whole life, anywhere in the world. Firmly on the hippy trail, 'The Republic of Boulder' is one of the thinnest, healthiest, greenest place in the USA. Apparently bike usage is 18x higher than the US average; when it snows they clear the cycle lanes before the roads. Our host Rosie was BCBC captain in the 1990s and a pathfinder herself, falling in love with Colorado ad now back here again working as a climatologist at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). She seems to have the perfect life - mountain biking, running in the mountains, relaxed job. This morning we went with her to work and had a little peek around (they had a tornado in the reception lobby ... read more

So it was a hot, hot day in the flat lands around Boulder, Colorado and some friends and I decided to cool off in the foothills west of Nederland. We drove up Boulder Canyon and stopped at Barker Reservoir, which feeds the city of Boulder, to see the water rushing over the top of the reservoir walls. All that snow this winter and spring is making for dangerously high water levels and rushing rivers and creeks. We drove on to the former silver-mining town of Caribou, now a ghost town. Caribou was established about 1870 to house miners from the nearby Caribou silver mine. Today only two stone ruins and one collapsed wooden cabin remain of the town. The mine was deserted for years until 1970 when a 19-year old gegology student became convinced that the ... read more

Today is the first nice day since we have been here. It is 68 degrees and the skies are blue. We decided to go to Boulder, which is North of Denver) It is a hippy town which is like no other town I have been to. There are busker's, street performers, lots of organic shops and where no one new is allowed to move into the town until people move out or die; I personally think its a good way to control the population and wonder why we are such pushovers in the UK After a lunch of crepes, we headed to the Rocky Mountain National Park and went for a walk to a beautiful spot that Jon found by accident when his parents were in town. We then headed to Bear Lake for a hike, ... read more

Ausserdem hatte ich leichte Zehenbeschwerden, nachde... read more

Boulder is famous for its status as one of the most liberal cities in Colorado, its colorful Western history, being a choice destination for hippies in the late 1960s, and as home of the main campus of the University of Colorado, the state's largest university.

Jess and I are currently at her house in Boulder. We are getting ready for a trip to Argentina for a bit. We leave December 14th. Jess will be there for six weeks. I will be down there for 3 months (returning March 12th). Our plan is to spend some time down south, trekking around the Torres del Paine, climb at The Frey for a few weeks, and spend another few weeks just poking around and checking out what ever comes along. We'd love to use this travelblog in several ways. Firstly, we want to document our experience and keep our friends/family in the loop. Secondly, we want to remain in contact with you all, and we thought this might be a good way to do so. This first entry is just to get the word ... read more

So this is my first entry, of my first travel blog. I'm going to need some time to get used to this. It's November and I'm graduating from the University of Colorado in 36 days. My degree is in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and it is something I want to pursue. I have always had the goal of traveling everywhere but never really had a motivation. Finally, it's my senior year of college, I'm about to be freed into the real world, and I have found my motivation. Growing up in New Jersey and going to College in Colorado I have not had the most "well-rounded" education. Now that I'm finishing up with my western education, I'm ready to embark on an adventure to gain knowledge through hands on learning around the globe. I want to ... read more
