Well, Beth, Mike and I have started our long-awaited journey to our new home. Destination: Colorado. Not sure where in Colorado yet, but all in good time. Right now, we're driving from home to Lincoln, Nebraska. A pretty boring drive overall, but Blackie, Beth's car, isn't enjoying the 90 degree heat as much as we are, so all duringthe second day, that's making for some fun unscheduled stops throughout Nebraska. We finally made it into Colorado, and were pretty excited when we finally saw the Rockies!!! Our home for the next week or so is a hotel room in a Comfort Inn in Louisville, which is a town between Denver and Boulder. The hotel is real nice, but it doesn't have a pool (how annoying) so we've been sneaking over to the Courtyard Marriott across the highway to use their pool. We've been simultaneously job and apartment hunting, which is beginning to take it's toll.
It looks like we've finally found our home sweet home!!! It's a two-bedroom apartment in a complex called "Deer Crest". There are two outdoor heated pools, a hot tub, a 24 hour fitness room, and even free wi-fi in their clubhouse!! Our apartment is on
"The Jesus Cloud"
as Beth described this amazing cloud that seemed to follow the road into Colorado, just when we wanted the sun to stop overheating Beth's car the third floor, and there's vaulted ceilings, a skylight, and a fireplace in the living room. The town is Broomfield, and it's only 15 minutes away from both Boulder and Denver, so pretty sweet location. We move in on Thursday and can't wait!!!
Of course, while we've been doing all this "hunting," we have also been enjoying Colorado.... something new and fun every day. Louisville has these street fairs every Friday night during the summer months, so we all went our first Friday in town. There were some local artists there, as well as beer and food tents, and free music. The band was pretty fun, and we met some nice locals.
The next day, Saturday, Fort Collins was having their 19th Annual "Brewfest", where, as you can imagine, there were tons of beer samples. Beer, music, food and fun, according to their website, and it was all true!! Perfect sunny day to add to the mix, and it was a great time. There were over fifty different Colorado brews and 400 kegs to sample from!!
One day, we went hiking up Mount Sanitas, which is in Boulder. Well, I started to hike up, but it was
a bit too much for me, too vertical 😊 So I let Beth and Mike go on, and went hiking on some lower trails, and later we all met up for a picnic. I've also gone biking, and walking along Boulder Canyon, which has really nice paths. That's one of the great things about Colorado, they're all about the outdoors and make it super easy and fun to do almost anything. We've been to Boulder, down their "Pearl Street", which kinda reminds me of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Pedestrian walking, tons of stores and restaurants, some street musicians and magicians--in fact, while I was there with my dad last week (more about that in an upcoming journal😊 ) I even saw the same street performer Marie and I had seen in Edinburgh!! Small world, huh?
