Hi everyone Yesterday I went into town in the morning to purchase some snow boots and also took my camera for a walk. Then in the afternoon I went back to Buttermilk and skied a few (slightly) harder trails. Still no falls which is quite a miracle. Then yesterday evening I went to the world premiere of 'the ripple effect' which is a film about the Aspen community. It was really good but quite sad as one of the guys in it died during the filming period, so they dedicated the film to him. It was pretty cool to hang out with locals and not feel like such an outsider. I also managed to win a pair of ski socks, so it was really quite a productive evening. The evening before that, a group from the ... read more

Hi everyone Well my trip hasn't got off to the best of starts but I am finally here in Aspen and (relatively) safe. 1) Left two days late due to an awful cold 2) Nearly got delayed in San Fran due to other flights being delayed 3) Bomb threat (four bombs found in banks) in Aspen, nothing open, whole of downtown shut off 4) Ended up in a room on a top bunk which has no stairs! 5) One of my bags (with clean clothes etc) lost en route The people here seem nice so far. Tomorrow I will try and get organised and get on the slopes. Keep safe Katherine... read more

Hi there Well I've survived one night in Aspen. It wasn't too bad in the end. My bag has now arrived which makes life a lot easier. The bomb threat is less of a threat so I think the town is opening up again. Today I'm going to go and try and find some lunch and then head to Buttermilk, which is the easiest of the mountains for the afternoon. The town is covered in snow, just piled everywhere. It seems completely bizarre to me. The top bunk isn't a great bed as they don't provide any method to get up there, you just kind of have to scramble. I had bad motion sickness last night too, so I don't think being so high in the bed really helped. No altitude sickness yet but then again ... read more

On of my favorite events come this time in the fall is the annual balloon festival in Snowmass Village Colorado. This weekend of September 12-14 offers a feast for the senses in Snowmass Village when fall enthusiasts can find the perfect combination of colorful fall foliage, hot air balloons, cool jazz tunes, and culinary delights by local chefs and over 80 wineries. It really is a great time to be alive in Snowmass & experience fantastic fall colors, The 33nd annual balloon fest, and The Snowmass Wine & Jazz Fest. This is one entry like I like them, full of great adventures and indulgence. We first flew to Denver....this time first class...thanks to Leslie Platinum level on American. Imagine that I find myself upgraded with him....because of his status on an airline...all this at 7 years old. First night next to Denver airport, and on the morning, we pick up our little convertible for the few hours drive to Aspen. The ride is short of 4 hours, but it is an wonderful and scenic drive. You add to this the open roof, and we were in Aspen just after lunch. Check-in at the St Regis Aspen, so now I can admit, this is very serious indulgence (as usual on a very special deal, as I don't expect to fork the rate they have!!). First afternoon, was ... read more

Oh my, Oh My ..... ASPEN, CO This a so beautiful, last Wednesday they had 3 feet of snow and Independence Pass was closed. Today it was sunny and clear with no snow on the roads. It is so beautiful that we wanted to turn around and go back thru the pass just so we could see it going the other way. There is a Ghost Town towards the top of Independence Pass. Contintental Divide was over 12,000 feet the air was thin and the view was endless.... read more
