One of the major reasons that we chose to drive to the west coast was to visit our two sons who live in Berkeley, CA and Portland, Oregon. Wondering Naturalists

Jon and Lynn are two sixty-something, retired, PhD ecologists seeking the wisdom from the natural world that can only come from first-hand experience with things and events. Our current arrangement is to keep a house as a home-base near Ithaca New York, where we have lived for the past 35+ years, spend summers in our trailer around New England (where Lynn's extended family resides), return to Ithaca for the fall and early winter, and depart for warmer climes after the Christmas-New Years holidays. Second Day of Skiing

The "Wondering Naturalists" contemplate the oxygen level at 8,000 feet!

Lickens on Trees

Note the pecular, "barber pole" arrangement of lichens on tree trunks along a trail in the Glacier Point area.

Ski Trail

Although it had not snowed here for sometime, the depth of snow was above average, important since much of Califonia depends on snow-melt for drinking water.

Wild and Scenic River

One morning, Lynn, Jon, and Moxie hiked along a Bureau of Land Management road beside the Merced River. This section of the river is suitable for kayaking.

Spring is here..for now
Looks like you had a wonderful trip to Yosemite, but we cant wait for you to get here! Looks like spring is back after a disastrous "Ithacalike" late march. Snow in Portland in late March? I never! Its close to 60 today though...Hope your trip up the coast is glorious - the pacific coast is one of my favorite trips Rob and I ever took. Wish Nick could come too!!! Leo is looking forward to spending some QT with Moxie and we will be sure to show you a great time on the coast as well as introducing you to the vast natural areas within our amazing city! Most of which you can get to by bike or train. See you in two weeks! Loves!
