1st July, 2009. Visalia, California.
Well, big effort this morning, we drove 40 miles down the road to Visalia, a town of about 120,000 and center of a big fruit growing and farming area. Californian Raisins are grown and processed nearby. More importantly to us it is close to Sequoia, and Kings national parks, Sequoia is the home of the giant Sequoia Trees which we plan to visit tomorrow.
Today we booked into the local KOA (Kampgrounds of America), we have been booked in here for a while, this weekend is American Independence day (4th July) and most campgrounds get booked out, Friday is an official holiday so long weekend. Lots of Independence Day red/white and blue for sale in the shops and also now being decorated on homes, RV's and businesses. The people are pretty pro USA and this is a big celebration of their Independence.
Went for a ride into town where we had lunch and a little look around, visited two RV Spare parts places (that didn't have what we wanted) and then headed back towards Fresno, we wanted to visit our favourite shop.
Over here because of weather (snow/heat etc) a lot of area's farm cattle
in small paddocks, no grass (dirt), that have huge carport like shelters and feed troughs where the cattle are fed hay and grain, the Americans refer to their meat as either grain fed or farmed, seems cruel when you compare our farming techniques.
101 degrees F at 5pm and still warming up, so spent a couple of hours at the pool before it was cool enough for dinner.

feed lots
Beef cattle arent really raised from birth in those bare feed lots. They are sent there to be "Fed out" on corn for several weeks after being raised on more conventional looking farm and ranch pasture.
