Hello all, this is the first entry of the Africa travelblog. Hopefully this will come to everyone save and sound. Forgive the obvious lack of punctuation at times, I or my wife may be in a hurry or drunk or both, usually both, but hopefully not as much as I am expecting. This is a trip of a lifetime and we greatly want to share these moments with all of you. Infadels be damned, and airport security be shamed, all should go according to Hoyle. That being said, I am taking Death On The Installment Plan to read as well as some Western board games to keep the time going while on the flight. We will be making an eight hour stop in London, then on to Africa and the real experience. Go A's. All else ... read more

We awoke at Hotel La Rose to a wonderful continental breakfast. Scones and granola and OJ, Oh My! With a full tummy and a Christmas Eve smile, we climbed up the Hotel La Rose grand staircase to our room. Once we got there, Allen noticed some movement by the windowsill... upon further inspection, we discovered an entire family living in the room with us... Ladybugs! All over the place! Did you know that ladybugs cuddle at night when they sleep? Against our better sense, we went to the Santa Rosa mall on Christmas Eve. But much to our surprise, it was actually quite pleasant! The people were friendly and Marce even got an early Christmas present - waterproof boots! We walked back to the hotel where we learned a little bit more about the place. Hotel ... read more

This morning, we bid Eddy the breakfast man, and our other friends at the Andrews Hotel adieu, and set off to explore The City. For anyone who has never been to downtown San Francisco, it is difficult to describe the sheer size of the stores, but we will attempt to here. The Urban Outfitters on Ellis and Powell St. is literally 4 stories tall. There are staircases that take you from each level to the next, each with fabulous punk-rock-emo-disgruntled youth chic apparel and accessories. We thought of A.J. when we saw the USB turntable, but realized we didn't have enough room in our suitcases! Allen also visited, of course, the Apple Store, which is absolutely brilliant. The first floor is filled from wall to wall with Macs and iPods set up so you can play ... read more

Our next visit was Windsor. We rode the Greyhound bus from Los Angeles to Santa Rosa - an 8 hour ride. I won’t forget this experience, really. The bus route, which I never expected was different. I was expecting that we would use mostly the freeway but instead it went through some towns and cities. I saw the large vineyards and farms in Napa Valley. It was a delight to see my two aunts there, Tita Moni and Tita Sibi. We stayed at Tita Sibi’s house. She and Tito Romy were the ones left in their big house. It’s cooler there in Santa Rosa compared to Los Angeles. ... read more
