Solvang
First time I visited was back in 1986. Now more than 20 years after, we meet again. On To Long Beach!

Tuesday
We woke up early enough and decided to split among ourselves. Emy was to have her day out with high school classmates while the Guerreros and I were fetched by Romy for the ride to Long Beach to meet up with Kuya Endo who prepared lunch for us. I also managed to meet up with my Grade 1 classmate Willy Ilagan! I was surprised to learn he lives just 3 blocks away from where Kuya Endo lives. Willy brought me to the school where he teaches, which is about 2 kms away, and introduced me to his fellow teachers who can hardly believe that our friendship survived 47 years!!!!! Gosh, we called ourselves friends at an age even younger than my apos today. Who would have thought we would stay in touch all these years. No wonder these American teachers are so very surprised!
The Guerreros rode back with Romy to spend the rest of the day in Universal Studios while I stayed on with Kuya Endo, Ate Elma and their apo M.J. who looks all American. A mishap happened while I was there. Good thing
M.J. told us of something smoking in the backyard. Because something was truly burning there when we checked. Ate Elma and I had to run to get the water hoses on and get the fire out. Oh, wow.
By the time Rosalie and Merle got home, it was almost time for me to get back to downtown Los Angeles to meet up with the Guerreros for our dinner with Chic and Danny Francisco. Rosalie and the rest of the family drove me back to our Westin Bonaventure hotel where Danny picked us all up for the dinner at their house. Steak and Korean beef barbecue waited for us. And good ol’ cheesecake which I can’t resist. Paolo had his fill of protein!
Now to Malibu, Sta. Barbara and Solvang!

Wednesday
Early to rise, for our trip to Malibu, Sta. Barbara and Solvang. Romy drove for us the whole day. We had a good lunch at
Sta Barbara’s Shellfish Company by the wharf. How we impressed the guys there by the way we ate our king crabs! No crab legs lay wasted! Hah! Our crabcake sandwiches and salad was
also so good. I had a mug of beer to down all those crab cakes.
Solvang is just the way I remembered it the last time. More Danish they say than Denmark. Windmills, apple strudels, Danish coffee and other pastries. We had time to check out
Sta. Inez Mission………… their chapel, souvenir shop, small cemetery and cactus garden.
It was a lovely day in the beach and in a “Danish town”. Thank you, Romy! On our ride back, we were eager to meet up with Gerry Torres and Cecille Sarsadias for our Italian dinner at
Boca de Peppo somewhere in Pasadena. Good old pasta and pizza. Paolo had gelato after that heavy meal. We strolled off the extra calories in Paseo de Colorado, a Serendra look-alike. Walking around, I saw Westin Pasadena where Sarah and I stayed in 2003 with Weng and Gabriel. Heavenly beds and showers………

Thursday
Romy picked us up at the hotel and managed to bring us to Cathedral of our Lady of Angels , where Lea Salonga wed this Robert Chien? We even got to hear noontime mass
before Romy drove us to the airport for our flight back to San Francisco.
Mar was waiting for us when we landed in SFO. Before going home, we squeezed in time to do some shopping at Target. I bought Paolo a toy and some shirts and shorts for Martin and Patricia.
We got home early enough to pack our bags for the trip to Seattle and the Alaskan cruise. What a blessing that we have this SFO homebase where we can leave much of our stuff and where we can even have free laundry! Not to mention the free board and lodging, chaffeur-driven SUVs, etc.
