We passed the 2000K mark today. There is a 17 mile toll drive through Pebble Beach where you get to see the various golf courses as well as scenery and homes of the rich. One of the exits from the drive enters directly into Carmel-by-the-Sea. A very pretty tourist town. After Carmel we headed south along the California coast - much like Croatia except here there is very little settlement. There were rock slides in a few areas causing delays. Saw a colony of Elephant seals. Staying in San Simeon and have reservations for the Hearst castle tomorrow. Went for dinner in a cute little town called Cambia. Weather has been great today, shirtsleves but a constant sea breeze.
