Today started out like the other days, an early work out, beautiful sunrise, breakfast. Did you enjoy the panoramic picture I sent separately from my Samsung Galaxy SIII. And to be able to stretch it out on a touchable screen is really great.
But then, we finally got motivated to plan our remaining 2013 time share adventures. We decided we wanted to go back to Hawaii, and after researching availability in Kauai and Maui, and then checking airline schedule availability both on-line and on the phone for seemingly hours, we had a plan It took all Tuesday morning, and part of Monday night to all Tuesday morning to research information, but as of Tuesday night we had flight reservations on hold to round trip Kauai the first two weeks of November. Still needed to confirm time share availability but would do that Wednesday morning.
On our way out of Avila Beach, we stopped at Kelsy Winery, a small vineyard that produces about 4500 cases a year mainly for their wine club, and tasting room. The neat thing about Kelsey are the Peacocks (about 70) around the property (3 pictures). Unfortunately, no spread feathers today though several years ago when
we were here, they were proudly displayed.
So in the afternoon, off we went to explore San Luis Obispo, home of Cal Poly State University. Tree lined streets, shops and restaurants, a typical college town. The San Luis Obispo Mission and statutory a pretty creek and gardens along it right down town, were highlights. (Picture But a bit below our expectations. They have a great Thursday evening farmer's market and we will see our jazz musicians from Sunday's jam session there. We continue to look for a washboard and accompanying items to compliment Susan's new interest in washboarding. No, I didn't say waterboarding. After all, she is not CIA. If we are unsuccessful here, my friend John owns a San Diego Music Store chain and I'm sure he can help us find the components we need. We'll see he and his wife Barbara next Monday. John and I went to college together and reconnected last year after 44 years of being out of touch.
We made good on our commitment to ourselves by having all you can eat crab at the Spy Glass restaurant in Shell Beach. Beautiful setting and steam shell crab legs, yum. We were first
introduced to them in the 1970s when we lived in Baltimore. There is a story about Bob back then, but we'll tell that separately! (Picture)
After stuffing ourselves on crab, the sun was coming down and we rushed back to Avila Beach to our favorite coffee house to relax and watch the sun drop only to be told they close at 6pm on the weekdays. Bummer, so we went back the the Inn where unbelievable Susan beat Bob in Mexican Train Dominoes! How could that be.
So dear friends and family, that raps up Day 5 on the California coast, a truly beautiful spot where I sit on my porch and hear the waves crashing in. Enjoy.
