I arrived SFO at 7am and spent about 10 minutes going through customs and 20 minutes trying to find the arrivals lounge. They are always tucked away in the strangest places. At SFO you have to go upstairs, then back downstairs toward the domestic terminal. The signs aren't apparent until you're nearly on top of it. After a shower and a basic breakfast I found my friend again and we talked some more. It seems he's interested in more funding, which I expect is the state entrepreneurs are always in.

I hopped over to the rental car facility and picked up a simple sedan and drove down to Mountain View to visit Eugene. I was early so I sat in the car reading a bit outside the Microsoft Research Lab where he works. At 11:30 we went in and had lunch (a delicious catered lunch, worth of the 'Bot) and talked a lot of shop. It seems there are a lot of youngsters starting in the tech industry that expect the world to be catered to them on a silver platter. Back in Missouri its not so bad, but I kind of figured it would be one more stressor to living in the valley. He is a lead hardware designer of the Hololens and we spent a good amount of time talking about it and doing a demo. I can see where AR (Augmented Reality) is going to be a big thing in the future where VR has mostly been just a game.

Eugene and I split up at 1:30 and I drove south to the hills to hike the Seven Springs Loop trail. It was a weekday and I saw hardly a soul for most of the trek. The temperature was perfect, the sun was out and the vegetation was all green. It's hard to ask for a better place to hike.

In the evening I sought out and found my original 2005 travel companion Hiral and his wife and we had dinner at a nearby Indian restaurant. We were a bit late meeting up and only had the one hour during dinner (plus the car ride) but it was good to see each other again. After dinner I jumped back in my rental car and headed to the San Jose airport for my return home. Economy ticket but with extra legroom.
