Statue on Treasure IslandThis is our last full of touring San Francisco..bags are just about packed so we were able to take our time and enjoy the day. Such spectacular weather here during our visit - don't believe we have even seen a cloud in the sky.
Drove over the Bay Bridge to a place called Treasure Island which is a man made landform in the San Francisco Bay. The island has a mariner and is a quiet spot to take photos of the city, Alcatraz and the bridges. On the weekends there are flea markets and wineries open to the public. We pretty much had the place to ourselves today and made a note that we should make it back at night for city shots.
Decided to drive a but further down the bridge to Oakland - but once we got there we decided we should just turn around and get out of here - maybe we went down the wrong street but it didnt look one bit safe to us!
Back in the city we took a drive past the AA&T stadium - home to the Giants baseball team. We didnt do a tour of this one - just
Back view of the statuegrabbed a few photos. Seen enough baseball stadiums this vacation.
Had lunch at the "whole foods" market downtown. This is one of my favourite markets in the USA. Wish we had this type of store back home in Australia. As the name suggests this place sells whole foods, locally sourced and many products are certified organic. While the prices are usually more expensive than other stores - the type of people who shop here are usually health conscious and are happy to pay for quality foods. They have self serve fresh food bars - we chose some hot food along with organic salad.
This afternoon we decided to take a ride on the world famous cable cars as a final memory of our visit to San Francisco. The cable car costs $6 per ride - there are 3 different lines - we went on the line from Powell Street to Market Street. We have riden on the cable cars in 2009 - it's a fun thing to do when in this amazing city.
To finish off the day we went back over to Treasure Island where Geoff managed to snap some spectacular night shots of the city!
Bay bridge San Francisco was a great place to finish our adventure. Tomorrow afternoon we head to LAX then onto Brisbane - ending another chapter in our lives....but rest assured there will be more to come in the near future!
This trip has taken us through the following states of the USA -Alaska, Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illoinis, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Vermont.
The Canadian portion took us through Brirish Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec.
We have really enjoyed blogging our adventures and hope those who have taken time to read the many blogs we have posted have felt part of the journey.
Our next blog will be from Australia - wrapping up our last day here in the USA and our journey home to Brisbane Australia.
Bon Voyage for now....
