Well it's finally got hot here in Phoenix, 105/41 degrees these last couple of days; but we didn't expect to get burned in San Diego earlier in the week... A good friend of ours, Nicola, was in San Diego on business this week, and as it's so close (relatively! - Only 380 miles or 6 hrs on cruise control) we thought we would go and pay her a visit. Ginnie had never been to SD, so it seemed like a good opportunity to catch up with a friend from home, see a new city, escape some heat and avoid some work! An all round winner! We made the decision to go and took off an hour later on Monday morning for the drive across the southern desert of Arizona and California - travelling along I-8 ... read more

APRIL 22, 2007 I ran La Jolla Half marathon on my 56th birthday. This course runs along Torrey Pines Park past Del Mar and into the village of La Jolla. Many people saw my birthday race shirt (Today is my 56th Birthday. Cool, huh?) and wished me a Happy Birthday which made the celebration even more special. I took a nice long bath at my friend Cathy’s house and was later surprised by the gathering of my buddies waiting to wish me good cheer! Yummy food, great friends, blessings all around. ... read more

Hi Folks Well, Rachel and I have parted ways with Ashley and Helen for a while. We've hired a car with Rachel's mate, Katie and headed on down to San Diego. It was wicked! We got the San Diego trolley and visited the Old Town. Very Mexican! Did some well needed shopping. Then we drove along the top of the Mexican border (in the dark) into the Arizona desert. Got stopped by some weird border control cops. We thought it might be to check if we were mexican immagrants. However, there are loads of military bases around and 'strange lights' so it may have been more than that.......freaky! Anyway, US is MUCH colder than our previous locations and we're feeling it. Also feeling the food.....in a terrible way! Yup, I said it. American food sucks! It's ... read more

San Diego seems very familiar. I think it's because there are eucalyptus trees everywhere and I keep driving through areas that remind me of Perth Suburbs. I swear we drove through Nedlands and Subiaco this afternoon! We drove straight through town to La Jolla (mostly because we were looking for hotels near Seaworld and got lost) to get our first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean. We made it across - woohoo! Unfortunately, we couldn't actually see it very well bcause the coastal areas of Southern California have been really foggy for the last few days. Something to do with the heat wave air meeting cooler air coming in from the ocean. At first we thought it was smoke, it was so thick! La Jolla is a lovely, sea-side area made up of hilly residential areas and ... read more
