21 April 2008: I returned from my journey to PAWS. Actually, PAWS has two sanctuaries (both located out of the Sacramento area). The new one that will eventually house all of PAWS' animals is called ARK 2000 (2400 Acres of land in San Andreas, California). Unfortunately, this disrupts family groups and leaves behind many traumatized calfs. Then... their training rituals begin so they can learn to perform for us tourists...

The Founders of PAWS... these two are living their passion and have created a vision for what a True Sanctuary can be... I had no doubt that I had found a true elephant sanctuary and one that could be a model anywhere in the world... right in the backyard of America.

Slowly she is getting introduced to the herd, so that she and the other African Elephants feel comfortable. Maggy spent 10 years alone, after her elephant companion (an Asian Elephant) had died. Now she has acres of land to roam and graze, and new elephant friends.... at last.
