Trumpet Vine running wild!
We arrived in Ojai Saturday afternoon. We had a beautiful ride up past Lake Casita. We want to return and camp there some time, but after camping in Big Sur for four nights we decided we would get a room. Ojai is one of my favorite places and I have managed to visit there five times in the past three years. There is much to do considering that it is a very small town with a population of only 800.
I have come here several times with girlfriends and once with Paul. It was 90 when we arrived and it really felt too hot. I worried that it would be too hot to do the biking and hiking we like to do here. The first morning we set out for a good hike on the Pratt Trail. It was cloudy, cool and just right for hiking. By the time we returned it was a pleasant 75 degree and sunny afternoon. This morning we went hiking again. We took the Shelf Road trail which takes you up past orange and avocado groves to a shelf out over Ojai. The view is looking out over the entire city. The weather stayed cool and
Beautiful flowers and I am not sure what they are. The flowers look like flox, but they are growing quite tall for a creeping flox. They run the freeways were as well.
we never saw the sun today. First day we have not had sun in about three weeks!....it was OK.
We saw SO MANY hummingbirds...... unbelievable. All the flowers are in full bloom and when we were returning from our hike, we stopped on the grounds of a church and sat in a beautiful fragrant rose garden to eat our apples. Life does not get any better.
I admire all the architecture of this little town. The homes are California ranch style, but the town and all its old buildings are Old Mission style. There is also a very well known spa here that sits in the middle of town surrounded by numerous restaurants and well appointed shops. Kind of a ladies town. I am sparing Paul the shopping side of town as I will return here in February to play with a girlfriend.
No matter what time of year I come to this town, the weather always the same. About 75 and sunny. So very much to do here. It is casual, very artsy and those restaurants…...
We have been on the road for 3.5 weeks now. Laguna will be our last stop. I am looking forward to seeing my
A beautiful groundcover
cousins and spending time in at my favorite beach. I have great memories here and Paul and I have made many more over the years.
