Today we went down to the Monterey, Carmel area. We drove the infamous 17 mile drive, which had some of the most amazing views. It's located in Pebble Beach, and ends in Carmel-by-the-Sea, one of the most picturesque towns you have ever seen! After the drive, we spend most of the afternoon in Monterey. Where we had lunch and visited the Monterey Day Aquarium, which was very cool! We left Monterey about 6pm, and headed towards Redwood City. Here, we caught up with Sam's Tio Chele & Fam. We had a DELICIOUS dinner at Portobello Grill, a new restaurant in the area. We had great time!! Enjoy some of the pics! :) Love, Lissette 'wants to move back to the City by the Bay' Hunter :) ... read more

There is a reason I've been schlepping a pair of strappy black heels and an impractical sundress over mountains and deserts, through forests and fields, allowing them to take up precious space in our very limited cargo hold, and that reason is Napa Valley. The very thought spins visions of elegance -- sunkissed vineyards, romantic B&Bs, limosines and vintage bottles of wine being sipped on the terrace. And though we'll be admiring all of it from a tent, we are not stopped for one second from trying to look the part. This was the only campground I'd made reservations for all summer. Although we've had remarkable luck at grabbing spots in peak season, we didn't want to take any chances. I was hesitant because reservations require a committment to a certain date and time and lately, ... read more

I'm not really in Nappa, I just wanted to have another place in my heading. Having said that, I did go there yesterday and it was really nice. We went out there on our winery tour and got to do a bit of tasting and had a wander around Sonora. The first winery was a ranch that had been turned into a winery (I don't know why Americans don't want to call them vinyards?) We got to taste a few wines, two nice (the white and red) and one that was not so good (desert wine) but in fairness I don't like sweet wines anyway so it was probably nice! I think it was the Kirkland Ranch winery. You won't find any of there wines in shops though we kept getting told. They only sell it ... read more

Hi Everyone, We’ve had a really fun time the last 2 days in Napa Valley. We’ve got free internet today on the Verizon phone so we decided to take advantage and send a short update. Boy, the trip over from Yosemite to Napa was NOT fun! We got to within about 30 miles or so from Oakland and San Francisco and the traffic was horrific! It took us an hour to go 5 miles and across the Sears Point toll bridge over San Francisco Bay in 10 lanes of traffic moving at a crawl. I’ll find a better route next time. Napa Valley though is really an awesome sight, we had no idea the meticulous care that goes into maintaining the vineyards. Shawn would really enjoy this. Went on several wine tours and tastings…. Wine Tasting tour of Napa Valley North America » United States » California » Napa Valley By KoroshApril 15th 2007 Headed out from LA towards San Fransico and Napa Valley with car. we took rout 101 wich is a more scenic route towards north, and stoped at a sea side town of Carmel just south of San Fransico. It was beatiful, with crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, fantastic waves, and a gourgeus golf course right off the beach. Following that, we headed towards Napa Valley. Americans truly know how to market themselves. This is the place for "wine and dine". for those of you wh... read more

We are now in wine country, in the Sonoma valley - Napa Valley’s prettier neighbour. It is lovely, but we think Slovenia beats it for beautiful countryside. We are staying in a little cottage just off the main plaza - with orange trees on our doorstep and every possible detail thought through with style. We had a day the vineyards where we drank a little wine. The next day we drove to the coast to peer over the cliffs at elephant seals snoozing in the sunshine. A couple of little pups were a bit restless and barking as the elders slept like the dead. We had a picnic lunch overlooking the Francis Drake bay - wonderful.... read more

Some events are special, maybe even more special than reality dictates. This trip to Sonoma county was really special! With the thought of leaving the East coast (after living here our entire lives) and moving to be close to our three children and grandchild, we planned this tour of Sonoma. Just as important, we were going to celebrate my "big" birthday. We this in mind, and with a great big helping hand from my son and daughter-iin-law, we rented a Villa for thirteen people and reserved a restaurant room for the entire crowd, family and friends. Then came the only ice storm of the winter. Yes, I speak of that awful Valentine's day of interminable delays at the Jetblue counter. The greatest frustration was hearing, for about 10 hours, that our flight would be taking ... read more

So-cal to nor-cal, and departing tomorrow for Pacific Island Paradise. Staying with family friends at an almost self-sufficient ranch on the northern coast. It is beautiful, with great food (best home grown lamb and veg ever!), and lots of fun company. We even got to have a shower and do some laundry. Did you know, dirty laundry can asexually reproduce in the compression sack, bursting out to fill an entire room! Have seen a lot between here and LA, and it's obvious there is never enough time to do PCH (Hwy 1) properly. I loved the wild Cornish-style nor-cal better, alex the surfer-bum beaches and warm water of so-cal. Seen beautiful sunsets, camped (and blown away) only steps from the beach, worn the same pair of pants til they could walk off, and loved the flip-flops ... read more

As great a trip as it was, it is great to be home. We arrived safely here at 1:00am Napa time, 10am Rome time on Saturday morning. Saturday was spent in a foggy haze, trying to figure out whether to have lunch or go to bed. Much better today. On our way home we spent the night in New York and had time to wander around on Friday. I am working on posting some video from New Years Eve and will do so as soon as I can figure it out. Thanks and we'll see you all soon! ... read more
