Our bags are packed. Our basic itinerary is set: only a few places and lots of time to explore new and old friends, museums, churches, architecture … cafes and restaurants. Our Mill Valley home will be lived in and well taken care of with friends coming to stay. We will visit family and friends in Rome, Siena and Florence. We have made a few arrangements for exploring at the Vatican and elsewhere. And we have pored over travel books and online to find the museums and palazzos we want to visit newly. Today was getting to know you day.... Getting to know the property we are staying at and getting to know the area known as Stinson Beach. What a beautiful sunny day to sit on the patio and look out at beautiful San Francisco. Spoiled this morning by the electric tea pot that heats up surprisingly fast and the wonderful French Press coffee that we drank. The Bear has decided that we should eat and then take a drive up HWY 1 to see the ocean. As we are getting ready- our neighbors i.e. the owners are cooking something that is making my mouth water and my wings flutter! We decided to say hi and see if they "had an iron" we could borrow. Today we stopped at Muir woods and saw a lot of stuffed animals when we got there. Also when we got there it was migratory bird day and we got to make masks of a bird. After a little bit of that we went to a little store thing and bought a snack I had a chocolate ... read more

30 April - 2 May 2010 Mill Valley, Marin County, California We made it to San Francisco on Friday. Not a sign of volcanic ash at Heathrow or even when we skirted Iceland on our way. But California - now you're talking. Pilot finally (after 10 hours) had good sense to fly a bit lower so we could see. Sunshine on Sierra Nevada and northern California. Got to the house in Mill Valley about 5 pm. Airport bus across Golden Gate and taxi for the last 3 miles or so. Taxi driver gave new take on immigration. "You know what? This area's being ruined by too ... read more
