On Sunday we had a quiet morning. In the afternoon Erin and Robyn went out to look at wedding dresses and Pete and I went with their neighbours Simon, James and Jen to a restaurant/bar that had an outdoor area set up with screens to watch the Super Bowl.
39 year-old Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos to a tepid win over the Carolina Panthers. Hard to comprehend that grid iron has only 15-minute quarters and that on average a player is on the field only half the time. That's about the same game time as water polo. At least baseballers play a marathon 160-game season.
Monday Robyn and I visited our favourite shop 'Steinmart', plus several others. We returned our hire car in the afternoon and Robyn cooked a salmon dinner.
Tuesday I drove Erin to work and later we took her car down to the impressive South Coast Plaza to meet the Meckels for lunch. Bob and Connie had spent an extended Super Bowl weekend at their house in The Desert and we could only meet up as they drove back home to San Juan Capistrano. We had a good chat, drink and meal at a Wahoo's restaurant. Not much time but it was good to see them again.
On the way back to Marina Del Rey we had a look at the nearby Venice Beach canals. They were not too impressive - narrow and shallow with small, picturesque houses along the banks. I guess the development was created many decades ago.
The Iowa and New Hampshire primaries to choose the R and D presidential candidates have been covered in great detail in the news. My impression from Oz was that Hilary Clinton was a shoo-in, but the feeling is different here. Surprisingly to me, 74yo Bernie Sanders is certainly competitive for the D nomination. The R field is similarly tight although Donald Trump dominates the news. I think Americans are very concerned and are really trying to find the "least worst" candidate.
