Today I decided to summit the area known as the birthplace of Mountain Biking and take some photos. It was a bluebird day by San Francisco Bay area standards, and the photo opportunities were breathtaking. Just awesome views any direction you looked.
I started out on the West side of the area at the top of Mt. Tam, then worked my way over to the East side.
Welcome to my travel blog. Thus far, I have shared a few of my recent trips, some highlights below :
1) Japan, Sep 2014. With the allure of a very foreign culture to me, non-English speaking, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Shinkansen (bullet trains), Tsukiji fish market, and Sumo wrestling, it was time for a two week break from life and traveled to Japan for the second half of September. Wow, what an amazing place, just loved every minute I spent there exploring.
2) On assignment in Berkeley, CA (Sep 2008 - Apr 2009). I explored the San Francisco Bay area in some detail during the weekends I was there ... full info
DaredevilActually, this wasn't a big deal. Had a big gust of wind blown this guy off the other side, he would have come to rest some 20' or so below that point, albeit scratched up to hell. Just on the other side of those rocks he is standing on is a good place to take photos while having the wind blocked by those rocks. Fairly windy here all the time I would imagine.
Fire Ranger Lookout StationUmm, that would mean 2571' above sea level then right? Hell, that's nothing, I have skied above 10000' above sea level in Colorado!
No Public AccessSince this is a fire lookout point for Marin county, no riff raff allowed. It looked like they had a couple of bean bag chairs up in there in one corner of that building.
Gravity Car BarnNo quite sure what this barn held. Based on the size of the path around the area, probably just golf car sized vehicles. That building was quite new and stout.
Perimeter FootbridgeDo the "Gravity Cars" pass over this point? No idea. Good view of Sausalito, Tiburon, and Angel Island.
Ocean Freighter passing AlcatrazHere, you can see a freighter on its way East (right to left) and is just to the right of Alcatraz. The bridge you see just below the middle of this picture is US 101, and between that bridge and Alcatraz sits Sausalito.
Richmond BridgeThe bridge that you see is the bridge between San Rafael (left) and Richmond (right). That beige building that appears to be near the left foot of the bridge is San Quentin.
Tiburon, Angel Island, Treasure IslandIn the center of the photo is the Tiburon area, just on the other side of that is Angel Island, and just on the other side of Angel Island you can see the flat landfill that has become Treasure Island.
San RafaelThat bridge section to the right is US 101, and the Larkspur Ferry Terminal is just above it in the picture. That area is also the road to the Richmond Bridge.
Backlit TreeLooking toward Stinson Beach to the West, with the sun a little lower in the sky, makes for some cool reflection off of the ocean.
Mountain Home InnLooking N/NE toward the Mountain Home Inn and beyond. Looks like the patio here has some great views not found on your average patio. Would be a great place to unwind after hiking around Mount Tam for several hours and begin your self medication for the evening.
