It makes sense to mention the first camping trip we made as a family first on April 2nd-April 4th to celebrate Nathan's 7th birthday weekend. This first camping experience was much different than the one we were about to take because we slept in tents at Sycamore Canyon instead of an RV. It was a perfect was to start Nathan's birthday with sprinkle pancakes and presents in the morning before school. Susie and George were staying with us and would be very helpful to take Vivian home on Friday and Saturday night to sleep in her crib rather than inside a tent. We picked up Nathan after school on Friday the 2nd and drove down to Sycamore Canyon. Susie and George helped with the kids and setup of the campsite and tent. We picked up dinner ... read more

http://www.heygo.com 18th February -El Matador Beach Malibu Well what a treat after all the snowy trips I’ve been on recently to find myself on a beautiful beach just an hours drive from Hollywood where our virtual guide Matt lives. El Matador Beach is beautiful in every direction with massive rocks, caves, birds, and smaller rocks covered in mussels. It is usually very busy especially in the Summer but today just a handful of people were on the beach. Matt was able to walk us into the caves formed by the wave action caused by erosion. This part of the coast is characterized by 150 feet tall cliffs, some parts were covered in a colourful mix of coastal plants. We could see a few very expensive residences further along the coast but we were happy to stay ... read more

This morning we were ferried to the RV Bear depot to pick up our wheels. A great RV this time, with a slide out living area giving really good kitchen/living space while still managing to have a permanent double bed (a must have for me, can't be doing with all that making up and putting away malarkey). As usual, it is a 7 berth 30ft little number. As Mrs RV Bear was showing us around I was surprised by the volume of bedding and towels provided, until she explained that due to the size of the rig she had assumed more people were coming.... We had booked a state camp site at Malibu Creek, only a half hour drive, so we would have plenty of time to unpack, go shopping for food etc. Spencer's first experience ... read more

Today was a day of rest for most of our party. It is exactly 3 weeks ago today that we arrived in the US and it although we have had a fabulous time, a day of doing not very much sounded like a good plan. One couple decided to take a trip to Universal studios taking their RV, another couple went into LA on the local bus and visited Fox studios, but the rest of us chilled at the campsite. It was a beautiful morning, so we had a leisurely breakfast outside the van on our own picnic table, looking over the pacific ocean. Then, inspired by the cleaning of the van taking place on the pitch next to us, we decided to give Ellie a bit of a spruce up in readiness for our handing ... read more

THE BASICS We did venture into Ojai and wander around the charming town. We also drove down to Ventura and enjoyed Ventura Beach. We walked around the Lake Casitas campground a bunch, and even had a campfire there one evening. Then on to Malibu, which has a 27-mile beach. Our campground was wonderful, terraced on a hillside with gorgeous ocean views. We drove to Santa Monica, then through a bunch of Los Angeles (Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, Hollywood). A highlight of our Malibu time was dinner with Linda's cousin Howard and his wife Gloria; they drove from their Northridge home to join us. THE FLUFF Ojai is a small town full of sophisticated looking folk and fancy shops. We walked the streets and spent some time at a unique bookstore: it's like a courtyard full of ... read more

That's what I call a very long Sunday...very long... I spent the last two weeks running all over Asia with stops in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Saigon and Bangkok. And if you are asking, yes it was business oriented...and indeed, I don't blog on those days...I had a lot of meetings...saw many friends...had way too many lunches and dinners....and after dinner parties...and did the full shopping list to bring back to home. Left home with a bag of 20kg, coming back with double that amount...you find a lot in Argentina....but there are way too many things we simply don't find in Buenos Aires! I'm not a big fan of sitting on planes for 28 hours in a row..or more...did it, will do it again next April...but not this time. Today, I'm on for another "fun" marathon. It's ... read more
