Paradise Cove in Malibu
Kevin's Entry: Today, Monday was just the best vacation day. We didn’t really DO anything. Which is kinda the point but hard to actually do. I got up early and hung out and made some coffee for us while watching the ocean. We both read and relaxed and finally got going around eleven.
We headed into Malibu and went to Paradise Cove. Some of you may remember that opening tag above from the weekly TV show Rockford Files from the mid to late 70’s. That was a staple of television viewing in the Burkhart household each week when I was a kid. I still love to catch a rerun if I come across it on MeTV or something. I loved James Garner’s relaxed southern attitude and homey style as he played a cool ex-con private detective who just never really made ends meet but drove a cool Firebird and lived on the beach. The beach parking lot where his fictional ratty trailer was illegally parked is still there and the restaurant is the Beach Cafe. So it was a kick to go there and see it in person and then have some lunch in the sand and surf. We’d tried to

go there the first night we were in town, but they have a strict no pets policy and Bentley caused us to get thrown out. So we made sure we left Bit at home this time. After lunch the terrier was a bundle of energy so we said to each other ‘time for him to go to the beach!’ Off we headed to Zuma beach with the hound and some sun block. The place was deserted today and we had it all to ourselves as Bentley got to experience the sand and ocean for the first time. He loved it! He ran and jumped, got chased by waves and met another Yorkie and saw all kinds of new stuff. He only got caught by the surf a couple of times and loved that too. So he was coated in sand and worn completely out. We got him home and he crashed out for the rest of the afternoon as we read and napped and hung out. Nan is fixing him some dinner and then she and I will walk down to Neptune’s Net for some dinner. This place is just a few blocks away and is an old school seafood

restaurant and biker bar.
So tonight is our last night in Malibu. We move on tomorrow back east through the desert. Plenty of vacation left, just not on the beach. Tomorrow should be fun for me as I check out where my family used to live when my Dad was in the Air Force in the late 50’s.
Nancy's Entry: Today was the perfect vacation day -- no agenda. Just walking the beach, sipping cocktails by the ocean, then reading and relaxing at home. I love to go out and do things, but we have been so busy going here and there, that just having a day to "chillax" is great!
