From MSN: But there is one thing I haven’t done. Will not do. Will never do. Will grow angry enough at you to throw spitballs at you if you ask me to do. And that’s move my seat on a plane to accommodate you so that you can sit with your friends or family or concubines or whoever else you’re flying with. Your grandma’s on the flight with you and you want to sit next to her? Granny should’ve taught you to plan ahead. Maybe Granny wants a break from her thoughtless progeny. You ever think about that? Of course not, because you’re thoughtless. You’re separated from your 6-year-old son? Braylin has to learn to fend for himself. Plus, this ain’t Antarctica. It’s an 80-minute, temperature-controlled trip to Albany on a flying couch. He’ll be fine ... read more

Since my Niners are not in the Super Bowl, I will watch from home, and enjoy some good food like most of you. I think the menu calls for chips and guacamole to start. This will be followed by lamb chops, rice, and greens. Dessert? Probably the All-American favorite, apple pie! The Super Bowl is second only to Thanksgiving in terms of food consumption. What are the rest of you eating? If you are taking the over/under on the food prices, take the over on higher food prices than 2021. The projection for chicken wings alone is 1.42 billion (over 100 million pounds) chicken wings! I wonder what they do with the rest of the chickens? Over half of Americans prefer to dip their wings in ranch dressing. Pizza is the top snack for the Super ... read more

Fast forward to 2022. Both the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021, and the current Winter Olympics in Beijing would have been great to attend. Why? No crowds, decent prices for hotels and food, ease of access to all venues, and reasonable ticket prices. Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in the world. I love the culture, the food, and the people. And it is my motherland, as both sets of my grandparents immigrated from Japan. Here is a rather old email on my Olympic experience. I mentioned in a previous email that I attended the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I was not able to get any tickets ahead of time and had given up any hope of attending. But I was able to find someone whose daughter worked for an Olympics hotshot in ... read more

Heading down to UCLA for a basketball game is normally a big deal. The Bruins play in Pauley Pavilion, and have won eleven NCAA National Championships, mostly under legendary Coach John Wooden. It was dedicated in 1965, named for UC Regent Edwin Pauley, who matched alumni contributions. It was renovated in 2010-2012. Attending a game there, despite the team's modest success of late, is still quite magical. Imagine getting to play there! Yes, I was visiting some friends on the UCLA campus back in the early Seventies. One of my friends, a med student at the time, and a real basketball junkie, suggested that we find some pickup basketball games at Pauley. Imagine playing on the floor where ten (later eleven) championship banners hang, along with the retired jerseys of Kareen Jabbar, Bill Walton, Denise Curry ... read more

The honor of the worst seems to always fall onto Allegiant, Spirit or Frontier. Per Trip Savyy, here are their findings: At the very bottom of the domestic airline rankings are Spirit Airlines (score: 2.5) and Allegiant Air (2.8), both of which are budget carriers. But the third worst U.S. airline is one of the big three: American Airlines. Bounce gave the airline a pretty low score of 4.2; it's still vastly better than Spirit and Allegiant, but far below the top domestic scorer, url=https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripsavvy.com%2F2020-tripsavvy-editors-choice-awards-delta-air-lines-5079728&data=04%7C01%7C%7Cbc461625402c4471ee8c08d9ba52ecba%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637745687594787157%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=8lG0sj7WAcCBU%2B%2FVaVyL3dzE4Q%2BmfrJV6eXD94... read more

Though its name might suggest otherwise, the French dip sandwich was invented in Los Angeles, California. The sandwich is layered with decadent slices of beef on a French roll and then doused in roasting pan juices (a French technique known as “au jus”). The exact restaurant at which the French dip was created has long been subject of debate. Local favorites Philippe’s and Cole’s both lay claim to the sandwich, but experts believe that Philippe’s may have the edge. The restaurant first opened its doors in 1908 and has served Angelenos the iconic sandwich for more than a century. Two Los Angeles restaurants have claimed to be the birthplace of the French dip sandwich: Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet/url... read more

http://www.heygo.com 25th February - Descanso Gardens, LA Before the area was opened to the public as Descanso Gardens, the land was an oak forest. From 1784-1869 the estate belonged to the Verdugo family and in 1937 it was bought by the owner of The Los Angeles Illustrated Daily News (Elias Manchester Boddy) in 1942. Boddy purchased the nursery stock of two grower families, the Yoshimuras and Uyematsus, who sold their life’s work prior to their incarceration by the U.S. government after Pearl Harbour. We only visited a small part of the garden, the oak and camellia forest, situated on 20 acres is believed to be North America’s largest collection of camellias, with 35,000 tree-sized plants growing under the canopy of 150-year-old coast live oaks. It was a pleasant time viewing all the lovely camellias even at ... read more

What was the moment I fell in love with sports? In no certain order, here they are. Yes, both of us, you and me, have missed the action. My first game, USC vs Notre Dame in the LA ColiseumIt was back in 1956, and the big stars were Jon Arnett for USC, and Heisman Trophy winner Paul Hornung, the only player from a losing team to win the Heisman. My Mom bought me a new outfit just for the game, wool slacks, and a stadium coat. I was only ten, but going with my Dad was the treat of a lifetime. My first MLB game, the Giants at old Seals StadiumMy Aunt and Uncle let me invite a friend to go to our first major league ballgame in 1959. The ... read more

One of the longest running TV shows of all time, is a day time "soap" opera, Guiding Light. Binge-watching the longtime-favorite soap opera Guiding Light would take quite a while: Between 1952 and 2009, the show aired 15,762 television episodes. Before that, Guiding Light began as a radio show in 1937 — between the airwaves and the small screen, 18,262 “stories” were broadcast overall. Not only does that make for a lot of long-lost relatives, murder, and clone plot lines, that makes ... read more
