Los Angeles 6th April Los Angeles So whilst most of the trips off the ship were into the heart of Los Angeles for sightseeing and shopping. The tours had been warned about the extra traffic around the area because of some road motor racing taking place and lots of roads closed. Passengers came back frustrated with the traffic jams. Just a walk round the port area and into San Pedro. The US Iowa is here as a museum piece and you pass her on the way to what we thought was some nice looking restaurants we passed as we sailed in. Little did we know that when we got there, the WHOLE area is scheduled for demolition and redevelopment. NOTHING was open, so we walked into San Pedro itself and found a quirky little cafe/deli called ... read more

It’s 3 AM and I have been bounced around in my tin can for the last 6 hours. Every time the train smooths out, I fall asleep. Then the train goes over a rough spot and I’m all over the place like a pin ball being swatted back and forth. Kirsten…. we are not in Arizona anymore. I wake up to the sound of the door of our roomette opening, it’s Kirsten sneaking out, I must go and pee. Yeah, me too… I but I didn’t want to wake you up getting down from my cocoon. So, it’s 5:30 am and I slept maybe 3-4 hrs. at best. I’m aching from head to toe. Ok, I like a hard mattress, but there is hard and then there is granite. WOW! We’re off to breakfast after freshening ... read more

Jesse, Tasha, Nic, me and granma headed to Disneyland. Wayne Kellie and Lucy adventured along the Californian coastline and did some shopping. We met at the Super 8 Anaheim. Tasha and Jesse have been to many a Disney theme park so they headed off with a solid plan. Nic flitted between each group and each park. Granma and I went on some rides and wandered around. We also went to visit Mickey of course. I think “it’s a small world” was mums favourite. The sheer volume of humans entering and exiting the park is astonishing. Staying close-by was a great call. We could crawl home after parades and fireworks, in fact Wayne saw the fireworks from the verandah of the hotel. ... read more

After braving our first LA traffic we parked both cars in some churchyard for $8 then cruised Hollywood Boulevarde naming all the stars we knew (like pretty much every other tourist stumbling along), bought T-shirts, spotted the Hollywood sign, lunched at Dave & Buster’s with bonus play cards to the attached arcade. We all piled in to the canyonaro to head out to Santa Monica Pier. Timing could have been better as we fought peak traffic and arrived as a ridiculous fog rolled in which made it freezing and reduced visibility to zero. We collected the other car and nic mum and me went to check in to our airbnb. What a nightmare! The place was super convenient to Universal Studios but the owner was kinda weird and we obviously weren't meant to be there. Never ... read more

David here... We arrived at LAX at around 1700 and were walking out of the airport by 1800. We managed to be the first ones off the buses into immigration and with our ESTA visa waivers in place we breezed through. The first stage was the electronic passport, customs and finger print/photo taking which was different from the last time as it was fully automated. The next step was a full immigration check, where Suzanne went first and had fingerprints and photos again. I went to another desk and the guard asked me about our travels and why I was in LA. I explained, quite enthusiastically that we love LA and were here for sightseeing and a gig. He then asked about the gig and I explained about seeing Lordi at the Whisky in 2 days ... read more

It's my goal to get to every MLB stadium, and I'm well on my way. At the time of this post (Feb 2017), I only have 5 stadiums left. That will quickly become 6 when ATL opens up their new park. Those stadiums are: MIN, TOR, WAS, ATL, TB, MIA. I've ranked them all and eventually would like to systematically score each of the parks, but as of now I just ranked them based on gut feel. Keep in mind my criteria probably varies considerably from what other people would value. For me, the actual ballpark architecture plays the biggest role, but also the food/drinks it supplies, any cool traditions/quirks, and things like that are very important. Additionally, LOCATION for me is huge. If your park is amazing but in the middle of nowhere, that will ... read more

Hello Fellow TravelzEarth Bloggers! It's Marilee Free here with travel stories from Michigan to California, Maui & Kauai, back to Michigan. Then road tripping from Michigan to the Florida Keys, spending a month. Jet setting off to New York City for a food & fun tour in the midst of the Christmas season. More road tripping back to where I love to be, California's South Bay. That is how I spent September, October, November & part of December. To ring in Jesus' birthday and the New Year, I found myself on yet another road trip to Pasadena, Joshua Tree, the Grand Canyon (Williams), Coronado Island (breathtaking cityscape views of San Diego) and somewhere between Rosarito and Encinitas, Mexico. It's been an amazing 4 months. I'm so grateful to my friends and family along the way. I ... read more

Los Angeles, USA 24th January LA is one of the worlds largest metropolitan areas in the World. The area extends to over 452 sq miles, and the neighbouring communities are linked by six and eight lane highways. You cannot do justice to a city like this in a day and the trips offered on board reflected this. The map issued showed the vast distances you would have to cover to see some of the sights and shopping areas on offer. For instance, Disneyland was 28 miles from the ship, Santa Monica 17 miles and central. LA is about 21 miles. Everything is done on huge scale, we sailed to our berth in San Pedro. The container port is huge as is the cruise terminal. It an take quite a number of cruise ships in any one time and ... read more
