The place where everyone's childhood dreams come true. A day of wonder and excitement, or frustration; if you're one of the thousands of parents trying to keep their spoilt children quiet as they scream unrecognisable words over and over again in an attempt to communicate how much they really want the Mickey Mouse ears with the sparkling trimmings.
Disneyland, my second visit, but the first for Mandy and Rach, was just how I remembered, in fact probably better as it was really quiet; for Disneyland anyway. One of the great things about travelling in October, no crowds!
SO after breezing through line after line and enjoying ride after ride, we made it to Space Mountain! wooo! It's just how I remember, only better as we got to ride it twice, oh yeah!
My favourite part of the entire day; Toon Town of course! Mickey and Minney, Goofy and photographs capturing every moment; just to show just how much fun we had.
As anyone who's ever been to an amusement park knows, its tiring, like a school excursion, so being the nana's we always knew we were, we retired to some beauty sleep!
The following day we had planned to visit
Universal Studios, but to be completely honest I couldn't be bothered, so after dropping Sands and Mands off to enjoy the fun that is Universal, pip and I took the long way round to Santa Monica/Venice Beach.
What a day, burning some energy on a cruiser along the beach, lapping up the sun and culture that is Venice Beach and well just relaxing! It had been a while and as we beach lovers know, nothing is more relaxing than reading a good book by the beach, oh and a bit of people watching is always good!
Santa Monica is amazing, if you get the chance to go to L.A, steer clear of downtown and stay on the beach, If I could have I would have. So do it! Venice beach = ace
We had moved into some new accomodation in North Hollywood, a disgusting smokers room, nothing worse...nevertheless we (you guessed it) went to bed early haha, crazy cats we are.
Wednesday was awesome, Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre, Sunset Boulevard, Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, A little bit of what we like to call stalking the stars, the spectacular Griffith Observatory, followed by some delicious "Shabu Shabu" at a
little Japanese resturaunt Sands took us too, hanging out with Pete Murray at some production company's private party (who wouldn't want us at their party?)
A sweet day, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Celebrities, Celebrities homes, Celebrity hang outs, Celebrity parties,; who would have known being star struck could get you so far!
Santa Monica definitely turned up the weather for us on Thursday, a perfect day to browse amongst the hundreds of street vendors, check out the local skateboarders, watch the sexy volleyballers and rollerbladers (yes they actually do rollerblade...just like on the movies!) relax under a pier watching surfers; listening to crashing waves, people watching, ignoring rappers attempting to sell 'the next big thing' cd's, paying $5 for a 10 minute chinese massage, staring at the clouds on the lucious green grass, smelling loads of grass, watching people attempt to get people to walk in and see the doctor who is selling grass, being asked why I don't smoke grass....you get the picture.
A day to be at one with yourself. An enjoyable day. A relaxing day. A day to remember because it was, well a good day.
You want to know why it was such a good day,
because it was only 3pm! and we were on our way to San Diego! Watching the sunset from the car window made my day even better, because for a moment there, after being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, I was worried my day would be ruined. Not to be! We were technically able to travel in the car pooling lane, and so, my day was back on track. Did I mention the sunset? I've never seen anything like it, the colours.....sigh.
Driving into San Diego I got a really great feeling about the place. It was a much bigger city than I had expected, lots of lights, which made me go 'wow' and which also contributed to my great day.
After checking in we were trying to get our heads around what to do from here, that was all sorted after catching up with some long lost drinking pals, aka the london rockers...and so the night was sorted...beer anyone?
After hanging out with 6 English folk until about hmm 4am? it was time for bed, actually it was almost time to wake up again. We were off to Vegas baby!
We all slept in, due to the fact that
the room we were staying in was basically a dark room, so within 15minutes we were packed up and ready to go. A failed attempt at halloween costume shopping we made our way to Mission Beach where I almost had a breakdown...this place was awesome; people rollerblading (just like at Venice) chilling with their boom boxes, swimming and sunbaking....why would I want to go to Vegas?! I was tempted to stay, but we all knew that wasn't a posibility, so I thought it was necessary to sulk about it for well pretty much the whole trip to vegas (sorry girls!)
to be continued.....
