Today is Paolo's day at the park! May 21, 2007
Monday
The flight from San Francisco to LA went smooth. Just as smooth as this guy at the Frontier check in counter who, upon learning we’re from the Philippines, went “Wowowee” and chatted with us about Piolo being gay! For these guys to learn of this noontime show, Wowowee’s popularity is truly phenomenal! We were still laughing as we got nicely settled on our leather seats on this new airline. My thoughts ran …… “I’d take another Frontier flight in the future……….” We got not only good seats but good service as well.
Romy was there waiting for us at LAX. After the pleasantries, he drove us to our hotel for the next 4 days. Through Bebeth’s connections, we got rooms at WESTIN Bonaventure for a measly rate of US $49 per day. What a steal! When Emy asked if the rate is per person, I was tempted to say yes and get myself go “free” for this LA hotel stay. Not only was the hotel right smack in downtown, we also got to check in early !!!! Oh, those heavenly beds beckon………………
Dropping our bags and tucking away our cash and valuables in the
safety deposit box in the room, we got back on Romy’s car and drove to Sheraton Universal Studios to look for Bebeth. Another treat waited for us…………… 2 free tickets to Universal Studios! And these are not just day passes, the ticket was good for 2 days! Good thing for Paolo, who I bet won’t have enough of the studio in just a single day.
We had lunch in one of Sheraton’s dining outlets (again, Bebeth arranged for our 50% discount off food bills) and took their shuttle to Universal Studios. We had a good dose of Shrek, where Paolo didn't miss a beat having pictures taken with the green ogre and thoroughly enjoying the 3D show. Mind you, the adults enjoyed that one too. In fact, I still have my fond memory of that show which I watched with the apos back in 2003, and eagerly observed how Paolo would enjoy it. Waterworld was awesome, as expected. I can't remember how many times I have watched this, but each time I get just as excited as those seeing it for the first time. Paolo wanted to sit out front, where those ready to get wet sit. Since he
didn't have a change of clothing, Mama Evelyn convinced him to sit with us instead. Naturally, the poor kid was disappointed. But not for long. The awesome show made up for the adults' shortcomings. Even the adults were awed by a life size airplane swooping down the set. After the show, we took a number of wacky shots by the gate. Paolo stuck out his now greenish tongue (don't ask me how he got it) and certainly looked like he got over the earlier disappointment. We walked around a bit more till we decided it's time to take the tram tour. Paolo, clever that he is, enjoyed the very educational tram tour . I was able to take a shot of Tito Boy with an Abogado sign behind him. Atty. Boy looked the part alright. Getting off, we walked over to the spot where you can pose with this huge poster of "Hollywood" standing right behind you. No need for the real thing. This 'fake shot' will do.
The studios closed early today so we spent the rest of the day in Citywalk where we had dinner and a good stroll around. Over dinner, we reminisced about our last
trip to Universal Studios in 1994 - Boy, Eve, moi, and my 2 girls. At the time, there was no Dora yet. Nor Shrek! Emy, who was last in Universal Studios a good decade or so, may only remember the shark in Jaws and that bicycle ride a la E.T. Paolo felt lost hearing us tell these stories. By the time we were ready to get back to our heavenly beds, Romy was there to fetch us. A few more minutes strolling around, then back to our heavenly beds!
