Soooo, was up way earlier then i wanted to be, in order to get to the airport to get my flight to Mexico. Arriving at the airport i looked at my itinerary to check what terminal i needed to get dropped off at. It was then to my suprise that i was only 24 hours too early.. After a few curses and many laughs, we drove back to Long beach to plan our action packed day. After little debate and thought, we decided we would have a big kids day at Knotts berry farm and ride the rollercoasters all day long... Ohh and the big giant screamo drop you from a huge height ride. Oh yeh, so yesterday i went for a mish around Long beach and went to Huntington beach and laid around in the ... read more

Hmmm what did i do today.... only hung out on a 6 million dollar boat... then went for a cruise around the Long beach harbour in the little speed boat thingy.. was a really nice day (30 degrees to be exact). After mooching around the staple shopping places (walmart.. which i now am in love with), we headed to downtown LA to watch the dodgers play the cubs. The atmosphere at the game is awesome, we sat in amongst a sea of blue dodgers fans, ate pretzels and watched the dodgers lose!... read more

The Final Journal I am ready to be home--The ultimate DeMilitarized Zone. This journey has been a physical, mental and emotional rollercoaster. I am glad I took the ride, but I am ready to disembark. I am reminded of a scene in Bram Stroker's Dracula (1992), where Mina asks Dracula to "Take me away from all this death!” I too have been around it long enough. How fortunate that I am able to hop on a plane and make it all go away. Five weeks ago, I set out to explore the effects of war, and each day they became me. I have seen and heard such horror and found myself sinking into the dark corners of my mind. As I re-read my own travel journals, I see how the heaviness was building and weighing down ... read more

Geo: 33.7664, -118.192I headed south on I-5 and near the town of Westly, I stopped for a break and to grab a bit of lunch. About an hour later all traffic quickly came to a halt (I and a few others ahead of me had to swerve into the shoulder of the road to avoid hitting the car infront of me). After sitting there for about 10 minutes, I called Onstar to find out what the traffic conditions were. Apparently an accident was just up ahead about 1 mile and that the road would be cleared in about 8 minutes. And it was. The rest of the trip was uneventful. I called a couple of friends to keep from getting bored and tired. I called my roommate about 30 minutes from home. She didn't pick up, ... read more

We decided to have a rest day today and just take it easy. Laid in till late and then went off in search of breakfast as it was $18 in the hotel. Found a fast food Mexican restaurant and had a lovely meal. I had chicken tacos served with black beans, Steve had fajitas, Nick and Andy both had barbecue chicken pizzas. We all enjoyed our meals, it is so nice having lots of different types of food to try. Had a little wander around the area and then went back to the hotel to spend the afternoon by the pool. Lovely area overlooking a boating lake. The pool was heated which was great as although it was really sunny it was quite windy and therefore cool. The hot tub was lovely and very relaxing. Ok, we went to the US. Why the hell did we go to the US, as this does not fit our principles of this trip. Indeed, would not say it´s a tricky or "difficult to reach" country, but to get ourselves from the middle of the Pacific Ocean to South America, we needed a cost-efficient route and voila: Los Angeles. And if we were already there, why not to spend some days and money in Western luxury. And well, what can you do normally in a standard stop-over??? Maybe you can do a quick city tour or a museum or two, but that ain't so much fun. So therefore we ended up in Long Beach and later on drove too much in Nevada and Arizona. We made the best of it, only in ten days. Linda, ... read more

Wednesday March 10th to Monday June 7th, 2010 It seems a hell of a long time since I last put finger to key and posted a blog in fact it is a long time, something I hasten to add which has not been the result of procrastination, disinterest or even plain bone idleness, quite simply a lack of available time. When I last wrote I’d just been informed that the end of my time in the employ of F & E was coming to an involuntary end. To be blunt I’d been told my experience wasn't up to their requirements and my services were no longer required but a spanner was thrown into the works less than a week later when they about turned and asked me to stay. My initial reaction to this sudden change ... read more

Had a real good lay in today - Up at 9:30, by 11 we were on our way to Long Beach for the afternoon. We put the roof down but Liz was chilly so Nige being the poser he is gave her his t-shirt, so he was cruising the interstate bear chested! (Not a good idea when you have a chest infection!!) A lorry driver kept waving at us, so Myself & Liz gestured at him to pull his horn - which he did - so we all gave him a little cheer! We parked up at Rainbow Harbor and took a walk along the harbor front passing the shops and restaurants. The Queen Mary is docked opposite so a few photo opportunities were taken, we spotted a couple of seals in the water too, then ... read more

We need not remind ourselves that every day of RVing is an adventure. Some are more welcome adventures than others. That was so true driving up the mountain north of Redding, CA to visit friends we had met last year in Jasper NP. The exciting part was wondering if we would fall off the side of the mountain before we finally arrived. It was dark when we traveled back down, so having a professional driver (Terry) at the wheel made all the difference. Other "adventures" were dealing with mice, a bat, and more recently ants inside our home on wheels. Not for the weak of heart. Shasta Lake, north of Redding, is a reservoir largely diverted to provide water to southern CA. We learned that this year it was 124 feet below normal! However when we ... read more
