Thursday!
We drove for hours and hours through hot boring desert. Sorry, it’s true.
Anyway, we have now arrived at our oasis - the Chateau Marmont.
Wow! It’s even better than I imagined. We have garden cottage 82. It is old and cute and has a lounge room with study nook, a bedroom with WIR and the biggest room safe we’ve ever seen, a bathroom and a kitchen/dining room. It is so cute. The kitchen has original old appliances and cupboards.
The back door, from the kitchen takes you straight to the pool and the front door is accessed from a little garden with fountain and outdoor setting.
When we arrived in our room, there was jazz music playing and a tray set up ready to mix a drink. So we did just that. I used the silver and mixed us drinks from the rather fancy selection available in our room.
There is over $500 worth of drinks in our room, not really a mini bar - more like a full bar!
Anyway, we’re heading to the restaurant at 7pm for dinner. I better go and get ready.
PS - I'm not sure if
we'll get many photos of this place - it was mentioned to refrain from smoking cigars and taking photographs. (I bet the Cuban Cigar shop across the road hates that rule! I'm serious there is a Cuban Cigar shop across the road! How funny!)
Friday & Saturday:
I wrote that back on Thursday & I can’t believe it is midday on Saturday already!
Well. We had a gorgeous dinner in the CM restaurant on Thursday night - just divine. Because the weather was gorgeous the tables had all been set in a manicured garden adjacent the normal indoor restaurant space. Gorgeous food, gorgeous atmosphere and gorgeous place.
On Friday we returned the car to the rental office at the Beverly Hills Hilton. That place looked lovely, but there was so many people and it was so busy - ooohh - we couldn’t wait to get back to our little oasis.
We had an hour or so walk back to CM and it was great to wander along Santa Monica Blvd and Sunset Blvd. We stopped for a delicious brunch along the way and I had a manicure too.
We lazed by the gorgeous
oval pool - that is so deep I didn’t touch the bottom when I jumped in the deep end - freaky.
It was funny people watching at the pool. The people there were either the most tanned , toned model looking types I had ever seen (and you would hear them commenting, don’t splash, I don’t want to get my hair wet, to scruffy looking musician types, to wealthy older people and a few regular people like us.
Regardless of this, everyone is very friendly. Whenever you walk past someone they say hi.
We made the decision to give LA a miss this trip and just relax and enjoy our stay @ CM. As most flights from Australia land in LA, I’m sure we’ll have the opportunity to sightsee another time.
After lazing the day away, we headed to the CM Bar for dinner. It was so cute. It was also very old, but as with the rest of the hotel, it was built with quality high end fixtures and fittings back in the 20’s and they are still going strong. There was butterflies covering the ceiling and a life sized stuffed peacock, all with plush fabrics
and candlelight or red lightshades. Very cool.
We then took a cab to the Nokia centre, part of the Staples Centre, massive place.
We headed upstairs to this great music space and saw Crowded House. Wow!
I hadn’t heard their new album so I didn’t know the majority of the set. But I’ve got to say at least 3 of the new songs sounded really good and catchy 1st listen! I don’t know what came over me, but when they played Message To My Girl I burst into tears, it was just so beautiful. Their old stuff was great and I am so glad that I got to see these amazing musicians play live in my life.
Anyway, now it’s now - 1215pm on Saturday afternoon and 445am Sunday morning in Adelaide - I have been on the internet trying to see the outcome of the election, have had a delicious breakfast in my room and am contemplating whether to stroll up to the front desk to get some more complementary magazines to read or whether to have a swim first? Decisions decisions!
I’m not sure whether we’ll write again, as today is officially our last
full day.
Our flight departs LA at 1030pm tomorrow night.
Bye x
Matt here,
The Chateu Marmont is fanastic, I could live here forever, it's quiet, very cool and super relaxed. We have made a desision to just relax and enjoy what's left of our holiday.
No more sight seeing or photo's, I think I had forgotten how good it is just to do nothing, lie in the sun and enjoy.
Anyway we get on the plane tomorrow night and head home.
This has been unbelieveable holiday, I had heard a lot of mixed things about coming to the USA but I have loved it, nearly every minute of every day I've been here. I left home thinking well you have to go there at least once in your life and have now found myself working out when I can come back. We have seen heaps but as usual barely scratched the surface.
See you all soon
Cheers Matt
