Geo: 33.8327, -117.916The wake up call was at 6 am and true to form BJ greeted us with an "Is something burning?" propped up in a saucepan surrounded by onions. A fireman's delight. The new purchases were stuffed into the already overflowings bags which were efficiently wheeled to one block to the bus pickup point and right on 6.50 the #Fab5 were assembled for the LUXBus ride to Anaheim and Downtown Disney. The ride was effortless - a small coach - a friendly driver - a few diversions because of filming in Downtown LA - but no traffic and plenty of open road on the freeway. It was all done and dusted just on the hour and without a fuss we were dropped at the Portofino, checked in the luggage and with nary a backwards glance were literally ... read more

Getting Ready to Ride

Well, poor Liam was still sick, this damn virus really knocked him back. So because He had been up all night, and Shiree with him, they both stayed back while Gary and Jaime went to Disney. A lot had changed since my last visit...not the least of which was the fact that they had built a whole second park next to Disney, and a bunch of money extraction options (Californialand and Downtown Disney respectively). Some of the animatronics haven't changed and so are a bit dated, while others are astounding. Overall...a little disappointed. Jaime realised this is aimed at smaller kids, at the age ours are maybe a full on roller coaster park might have been better. But the rides we went on were still cool, and we are thankful to be able to be here. ... read more

Well, "Hello" to those of you that are still following our journey. it's Saturday and we have finally had a slow start to the day. I, Lisa woke at 4.22am just a bit later this morning but after a while I did go back to sleep, which was well received by me & my family as I'm sure I was gonna be wearing my Cranky pants soon. I know most days I'm generally not the best of sleepers but thought after all the walking we have done that we would be too exhausted to have sleeping issues but this was clearly not the case. Graham and Girls woke quite a bit later, had breakfast from our meagre purchases from Walmart, yoghurt, Lucky Charms cereal (recommended by my nephew & niece) & some rank tasting grape juice ... read more

Hello again from sunny California! It's 9:00am on Friday and we've just awoken from our first decent nights sleep since Tuesday night. And we feel good, dada dada da so good..so good.. Yesterday was a long but great day with lots of fun. It started with Lisa waking at 3.10am, obviously her body not quite syncing to the time difference yet and a 5:15am wake up call. Showered and dressed, donning the sensible shoes so that we could get to the Disneyland Hotel for breakfast in Goofys Kitchen at 6.30. And don't the Yanks know how to do a breakfast! We weren't too sure whether to have the donuts, peanut butter and jelly pizzas, enchiladas or mousses so for starters had omelette, eggs benedict and scrambled eggs (and that was just Gman) plus bacon and sausages. ... read more

Geo: 33.8327, -117.916Who would have thought? Disneyland Paris > Disneyland Anaheim. In comparison, Paris makes the US version look tame, outdated and childish. Having said that, we still had a memorable day, mostly for the better. It wasn't all smooth sailing though, things certainly didn't start perfectly. We woke at 7, had breakfast and left the hotel just before 8, aiming to make the opening of Disneyland at 10am. We took the 20minute metro ride to Union, arriving at 8.30. Here, we had to buy regional train tickets out to Anaheim, costing $30ea return. We couldn't believe we had to wait not 5, 10 or 30 minutes, but 80, for the next train towards Disneyland. Plus, that train was to be delayed 15minutes. If that's not painful enough, we were about to be introduced to a ... read more

Our last day at Disneyland Park begins and it is quite an emotional experience knowing that it's the last time we take those steps through the gates into the magical kingdom. We ride the Disneyland Railroad to Tomorrowland bound for Autopia (Oliver's park favourite!) and have a go at the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters for the last time. We meet up with the Ferguson's as they are queuing in Fantasyland and arrange to meet up for lunch. We head for Mr Toad's Wild Ride and the boys squeeze in another session at the Shootin' Exposition in Frontierland before sitting down for lunch at River Belle Terrace. We all decide that Pirates of the Caribbean will be our next stop and it's so much fun to share with friends (and we all manage to stay dry!) We ... read more

Day 2 of our Disneyland Park experience began with what has become a daily custom..... the purchase of a new set of Mickey Ears for Leanne to colour coordinate with the attire for that day! We headed to Frontierland where Oliver finally had the chance to buy a much longed for Davy Crockett coonskin hat (faux of course!) and where the boys spent a few quarters at the 'Shootin' Exposition'. We took a trip around the Rivers of America on the fabulous Mark Twain Riverboat and explored Tom Sawyers Island. New Orleans Square was the next area on the map, which included the Pirates of the Caribbean (now an absolute firm favourite!) and the Haunted Mansion (Holiday style with Jack Skellington having taken over for Halloween). Critter Country brought with it The Many Adventures of Winnie ... read more

Saturday brought with it the weekend crowds but nothing could detract from that Disneyland magic. Our first ride on the Monorail took us directly into Tomorrowland, the location of Autopia (one of Oliver's favourite rides). A drive around the track before heading to Buzz Lightyear Auto Blasters and then onto viewing the classic Captain EO 3D (starring a very young Michael Jackson, circa 1986!) Star Tours for the boys and a little shopping for me, before Mickey's Toontown. A rather long wait for Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin (beginning to understand the Disney genius of detailed queuing areas!) and a wander through the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival takes us back towards New Orleans Square. A ride on Pirates of the Caribbean (just as good second time around!) and a pointless wait for the boys at ... read more

Packing and checking out of the hotel in San Diego preceded the necessary task of finding a laundromat. A few hours (and lots of quarters later) we were finally on the road, bound for the Disneyland Hotel. You literally could not wipe the smile from my face as we pulled in, checked in and then walked into the lobby of the Frontier Tower and made our way to our room (on the top floor, the 14th floor, with a balcony, just perfect for those who love heights!) The hotel, the room, all the attention to the tiny details, it is quite simply amazingly awesome, so worth every single penny and so much better than I could have ever imagined. Our first night is spent settling in before dinner out on the deck at Tangaroa Terrace. The ... read more

As a mom, I always dreamed of taking my kids on a magical trip to Disneyland. I was not disappointed. The hotel in Anaheim was more expensive and smaller, but it still had some great perks. Our hotel gave us a free meal plus a $20 voucher for dining with them. So, after arriving from San Diego via Amtrak and taxi, we pigged out on a surf 'n' turf dinner with all the trimmings, side salad, chips, guacamole, and even apple pie a la mode. Also, as part of our hotel package, the next morning we received 4 sack lunches with huge club sandwiches, chips, and juice for us to take to Disneyland (which saved a lot of money in the park). We also packed drinks for the day. That night, we found out (via Google) ... read more
