Everyone is hyper-excited this morning and bursting with energy Our first day at Disneyland! Our three day pass entitles us to have one morning where we can enter the park one hour prior to the official opening time. We decide to use this early entry today, of course. It’s a good 15 minute walk down Harbour Bvd from the Doubletree Hotel to the gates and then another 5 minutes thru bag check (fortunately we didn’t have all our lunch and drinks confiscated) and into the lines. It seems every other person decided to use the early entry day today too - there’s at least a thousand people queuing to get in with us.
Disneyland is very similar to the Gold Coast theme parks (particularly Movie World) only on a MUCH grander scale. First glimpse the of famed castle and it’s like - “Oh, it’s much smaller than I imagined” - it’s really, really tiny, but still very cute. We head straight over to Space Mountain in Tomorrow Land to relive the time I was here in 1979. Back then, it was peak season, we arrived late and I remember only going on three rides all day due to the horrendous
queues. Space Mountain was my first introduction to roller-coasters and I was absolutely terrified!!! It’s been a long time since then and of course, no longer terrifying. There were no queues at all thank goodness and we all loved it.
Next, the Matterhorn (another blast from the past) - a 10 minute queue and we’re then we’re zooming down the mountain in our bobsleds at a million miles an hour - great fun!!!
Jordi had been hanging out long enough - we had to find the Indiana Jones ride (her absolute favourite movie of all time), so off we trudge waaaaaaay over to the other side of the park to the Indy ride. Now, this setup is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Right from the minute you step into the queue area the theme begins.
First you start on the swing bridge before entering The Temple of the Forbidden Eye - an underground series of tunnels which takes you into what seems to be an authentic underground cave system and tomb. You don’t mind the waiting as you stand and look at all the hyragliphics and the props they have created. It’s all so realistic. Before long you’re boarding your Jeep
(Jordi was driving and we all got front row seats) and heading off into the dark. During your journey you encounter spiders and bugs scuttling over the wall in front, explosions, a real rickety swing bridge, the rolling boulder and plenty of other thrills which makes you want to go and line up and do it all over again - which we did - three times!!!!
For the rest of the 11 hour day we trekked back and forth over the park covering most of the rides (all bar the Tea Cups and Dumbo - you just won’t get me on those) and walked back to the hotel via the slowest Subway on the planet, absolutely exhausted. Our feet and legs were throbbing and we just wanted to sit down.
An excellent day all round….
