Today we drove through Joshua Tree National Park on our way to San Diego, CA. Now we really know what U2 was actually talking about. The park was beautiful and very interesting. The pictures of the trees will explain everything. The Joshua Tree only grows a 1/2" every year so you will be able to tell how old some of them are. We saw some animals that we had never seen before, however they were all very quick so we couldn't get any pictures of them(mostly rodents). Beside the Joshua Trees, we also visited a cactus farm. All of these plants are not planted they have just grown in these areas. We finally arrived in Joshua Tree National Park at about 10.30 in the evening, the park rangers had gone home so we drove straight through into the park, …well we could always pay when we departed. We drove to a series of campsites before finding a site that was not full up. We pitched the tent and went to bed not knowing what sort of scenery was surrounding us. In the morning we found that we were encircled by large boulders, these provided some shelter from the strong desert sun. We packed up and started to explore the park. We started with a relatively easy mountain climb up Mount Ryan where we were able to see magnificent views of the park and of course the famous Joshua trees. What is travelling, and what is not? Just because I don't pack my clothes into a bag and find a new bed each night, does that mean that I am not a traveller? I choose to oppose that framework, and to say that even the static person can still be the traveller, there still are thousands of personally untouched terrain to tread. There still are thousands of unshook hands to shake in this town. OK, maybe I'm wrong.
