Wednesday, June 4th - Official Arrival

It's 11:30am at the Palm Springs airport... do you know where your mini-van is??? Ok, so it took a bit of time to get the actual car; but it was S-w-e-e-t! (HMV = Hot Mama Vehicle!) We were able to eat a very messy burger at Carl's Jr's, check into the Condo, and be out pool-side by 2:30pm that afternoon! Wahoo!

Let the adventures begin!!

We managed to get up fairly early on Thursday, pack the car with PB&J sandwhiches and plenty of water, lather ourselves with TONS of suntan lotion, and head off 49 miles NE to Joshua Tree National Park. The weather forecast predicted it to be the coolest day of the week... I bet it was 100+ degrees. (It was actually tolerable in the shady areas of the rocks.)

We spent the day hiking around the pull-off exhibits/viewing areas. Tried to figure out which rock was marked as "Skull Rock" -- so we did a crazy 1.7 mile loop in search for it. (Now on the web site I see that it was the FIRST rock we saw! HA!) Took

several pictures of scenery - and each other - both landscapes & macros. There were some truly unique spots of nature within the park: Cohulla Cactus, budding Joshua trees, Bladder plants, yuccas, etc.

Our drive back took us thru the small town of Joshua Tree, and eventually the Wind Farm area off of I-15. We were back in Palm Springs in time to visit a Street Fair -- grabbing a bite to eat and a quick stroll.

As the evening drew to a close... there was a bit of a bit of a cock-roach incident... or two! Bravely, Sherry & Michelle captured two of them and set them free ! Such good samaritans!

until tomorrow...................
