Well this is the first time i've had a chance to get online on a high-speed connection when this website was working, so it's the first update, what excitement, what joy! Arrived in San Francisco and had a lovely day just exploring the city, was meant to go to Alcatraz but everyone was too slow and busy getting BURNT so we missed the last ferry booking. Boo! Oh well I can do SF after camp, I want to do the city justice anyway. Camp is just... bizarre. I can't really describe it, it's like every weird american cliche you've heard/seen in movies come to life. And yet most of the time, it doesn't completely disgust me. Always nice. Hello again family, friends and everyone: We spent our 4th of July week-end in the Mendocino - Fort Bragg area on California’s Northern Coast. We stayed at Grandma Edna’s home in Willits, CA as she was vacationing in Edmonton, Canada visiting Irwin and other family members. Holly and I had the place to ourselves, thanks for the free lodging Edna, we watered the plants and left the place in good repair. We loaded our new truck (our old truck was stolen from the local K-Mart Shopping Center and recovered three months later) with our cross-over bikes and headed out to Mendocino County and three California State Parks. Please Note: The following post was meant to be uploaded on Christmas night, but we were unable to find a signal between the ocean and the mountains. Our second morning at Hotel La Rose was as picturesque as the first. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast, with a miniature evergreen as our centerpiece. After packing our things, we bid farewell to Janet and Gustavo, who despite working Christmas Day, had a warm smile and kind words to see us off. We followed the winding Russian River through Sonoma County until it met with Pacific Highway 1. The dense fog lifted sporadically, allowing us a glimpse of breath-taking valleys, spectacular mountain tops and towering waves. In retrospect, the beauty was best in small doses because it helped prepare us for the awe-inspiring view of the Pacific Ocean. Huge ... read more
