I decided to go up to see my sister in Fort Bragg and I got the brillant idea from someone to try another way. The first one I started by going up I-5 to Williams and then crossing over on Highway 20 over Clear Lake and through Willits. From there its about 26 miles of all twistie roads to Fort Bragg. A true motorcyclists dream. Nothing but curves. :) The second I started with I-5 again then crossed over onto Highway 12. That road really sucked at times. It went Highway 29 then to Highway 128 from there on to the coast. I went through a lot of little towns I had not seen in about 45 years. So this was kind of cool. I had one place in special I was headed for . ... read more

Today it was time for a chill. Having said that I still managed to ride nearly 50km almost without noticing it, its funny how you just get used to being on the bike and it feels like home. I definitely overstayed my welcome in starbucks today and after I'd been in there for about 2 hours the staff were justified in giving me dirty looks but it did mean that I was able to update my blog and put some pics online for you all to see. We've had a tsunami warning tonight, apparently there has been some earthquake in the pacific so they've evacuated all the beaches just to be on the safe side. That’s fine by me I'm all cozy and wrapped up in my tent. Who wants to go on the beach in ... read more

Today felt like it started really slowly, but the first time I looked at my speedometer I had already come 20km, sweet! My first stop was at a small town called Anchor Bay. I managed to find a small store to buy some bread for lunch and some chilli beans for dinner. Then I was off on the road again and by lunch had covered over 60km. What a morning. The afternoon was a slightly different story. As I sat under a tree and ate my sandwiches a strong onshore wind decided to develop which meant riding with a headwind for most of the afternoon which made my whole afternoon uphill, I was even struggling to get over 20km/h on some of the downhill sections. The up hills kept coming, I'm getting pretty good at climbing ... read more

Hello! It's hard to believe that since I last wrote on this blog, I have cycled through the whole of Oregon from top to bottom and am now in Fort Bragg, California. We are just over halfway through the trip and I have over 1000 miles on my mileometer. Hoorah! Things are going swimmingly - my bicycle is doing an excellent job of hauling me and my belongings up and down endless numbers of hills (only one puncture so far), and my body is still in one piece too. I had a couple of days of grumbling muscles and joints at about the two week mark, but my policy was to take it easy and keep riding - after all, it really wasn't an option for my legs to give up on me at that point! ... read more

I love it here. I love the redwoods. I love the ocean. I love myself. Several things have come up for me and for the first time in a long time, I haven't felt the need to bury them. I've been journaling more, dreaming more, reading more, and smiling constantly. Moon died yesterday. Thank you to everyone who contributed in her long life while I was growing up. She was well loved and she loved well.... read more

So I'm surrounded by the wildfires of Northern California. Camp is going on as usual. The smoke in the area is thick and because I am working in the office I know the local fire department has called to make sure we have appropriate evacuation plans. It's weird though; no one is acting like it's a big deal. I guess they don't want everyone to freak out, but last I heard the closest fire is only 4.5 miles from us. My throat is sore and the smell of fire is strong. Supposedly it's 90 degrees and sunny, but I haven't seen the sun in a couple days. So aside from that... I wake up every morning to children laughing. I'm so happy. This is the first chance I've had on my laptop since Montana. So these ... read more

Change in location... I quit my job in Glacier, bad situation. Got an amazing job in a summer camp in the redwoods (thanks Ace!). Drove 21 hours to San Fransisco. I loved it in the city. Driving into Montana, I was nervous and trying everything to build excitement. Driving into San Fransisco, I could barely contain myself. It smells good, it tastes good, and god does it feel good! Again I have no phone, but good internet. I will probably have less free time, though. Campers arrive next Tuesday! My new address is: PO Box 1790 Fort Bragg, CA 95437 My employer is forwarding everything sent to Montana to the new address. I left on good terms, my choice. Essentially, she handled a situation very poorly and I couldn't stay, for my own safety and comfort. ... read more

Hello, If you don’t know me, I’m Allegra. I’m a high school junior, I’m a writer, I’m a cook, I dance, I am harmlessly and beneficially insane. If you already know me you’ll be familiar with my odd ways. Sometime last year, I decided That I wanted to go abroad for my Junior year. I found an organization, AFS, and, after much pondering, decided to go to the Dominican Republic. For those of you who do not know what or where that is (someone asked me once if it was off the coast of France!!!!!) it is in the middle of the Caribbean right under Cuba and it shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. I got placed in La Romana with the Felipe family, and on the 22nd of August, I’ll be off! I’m going ... read more

. Ok, so the plan for today was to drive south, visit the Avenue of the Giants, take the supposedly “heart in your mouth” twisty road to Route 1 and get as far down the California coast as we could. Carl, looked out the window when we first got up - the sky was blue, with just a hint of fog… All the elements were in place, so what happened?!...
