We were all up by 7 am drinking lattes by the fireplace. Ken made oatmeal for everyone. We sat around discussing what to do today-another gorgeous day. I found a place to visit-The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch-(50 acres of color in bloom on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. For over sixty years, the rolling hills of Carlsbad have been a spectacular and coordinated display of natural color and beauty. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are in a full bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area's local heritage, is also one of nature's official ways of announcing the arrival of spring).
The guys did not want to go, so they decided to go fishing in Oceanside. After showers, we headed out. We stopped at Wal-Mart for bait and picked up sandwiches for the guy's lunch. We dropped them off at the Oceanside Harbor North Jetty and headed to Carlsbad. We arrived at The Flower Fields and bought our
tickets. They have a wagon pulled by a tractor that takes you around the 50 acres; you can get out at different places to walk amongst the flowers-Ranunculus flowers. It truly is beautiful. The hillside overlooks the ocean. After exploring the fields, we walked the grounds - the sweet pea maze, poinsettia greenhouse, the Cymbidium greenhouse, the rose garden. They have lots of events/weddings here. I definitely recommend coming here if you are so fortunate to come during blooming season.
We were hungry so found a nice mall down the road. After driving around the entire parking lot and not finding a spot, we opted to go to a restaurant across the street: King's Fish House. It was very delicious. I had macadamia crusted Mahi and Henna had Fish and chips. We sat outside; this California weather is hard to beat. Afterwards we walked across the street to the outlet mall. We had spotted a Crate and Barrel Outlet and it was calling our name!! Wow- they had some very good deals. Why can't we have one in Tucson? I bought a vase and orange branch. We headed back to the truck and called the guys to say we were on
our way to pick them up. Ken told Henna she won't be needing the tilapia she had planned for dinner because they caught a bunch of fish-NOT!
We arrived at the Harbour and walked out on the jetty to meet them. It's so beautiful. It's 5pm on a Sunday but this place is still packed. Doesn't anyone have to get ready for work tomorrow? People are grilling steaks in the parking lot. Ken did catch one fish-he didn't know it at the time-but found out from the captain on the fishing boat on Monday, it was a Cabazon-supposedly a great tasting fish. He let it go. They took a picture of a little girl with a beautiful starfish. Ken had dropped mustard all over his shirt eating his sandwich. He told a little girl that he had caught a great white shark and it spit up on him before he let it go. She went running off telling her family that this man caught a great white shark! Geez!
We arrived back to the RV park and Henna discovered the fish was still frozen so we had grilled apple chicken sausages and baked potatoes. It was a beautiful night and we ate
outside under the stars (next to the heater). We said goodnight, read a little before sleep.
