We woke up around 8:30! I think we were so comfy and snuggly with the down blanket that we slept late. It was cold! Ken made coffee, we put on our jackets and we decided to walk around the campground with our coffee. Everyone was up making breakfast, kids were playing. We had our cinnamon crumble coffee cake and OJ and then decided to drive in to Carmel. We needed to make a few phone calls and that was the closet place for cell service. We stopped at Starbucks and got some coffee and sat outside. I decided to walk around and Ken stayed there. He had the laptop and was looking for RV campgrounds near San Francisco. When I came back, he of course had a story. He noticed at the table next to him, ... read more

Up around 7:30; Ken is already up, had his first cup of coffee. He's been getting the RV ready for travel. I'm not sure what that means. All I know is that he goes outside to do it and I don't have to do it. He makes me a latte; we have OJ and whole wheat blueberry waffles. Showers; put things away and we are on the road. We are headed to Big Sur, CA today. The Pacific Coast Highway is just absolutely beautiful. It is a must for everyone to do at least once. Put it on your bucket list! In Santa Barbara we stopped for lunch at Panera Bread. We split a roast beef, cheddar and horseradish sandwich and picked up some Cinnamon Crumb coffee cake for tomorrow with coffee. We decide to take ... read more

Saturday June 4th 2011 to Tuesday August 14th 2012 To all you muthas who I'll call friends, I'm glad to have you with me, 'cuz here we go again" Ted Nugent They say all good things must come to an end and thinking about it they're quite right. The Canaries’ infamous 1959 Cup run stalled at the semi final stage just one step from the hallowed Twin Towers, Del Boy Trotter tragically slipped into millionaire obscurity after twenty two years of gracing our living room screens and as twelve months rolled by without so much as a whiff of an entry this blog appeared to be sadly heading the same way. More to do with a self imposed term of procrastination than a desire to put an end to these ramblings of my life in the ... read more

Bay after bay, cliff after cliff. From the bottom to the top. How many million dollar views can you see in a day? After leaving Motel 6, our trek took us through central California. Here we found many tourist cities with beach houses, mansions, and grand ranches. Here, there were all surfers and no swimmers. The weather was cool and sunny just like it should be. Travelling Hwy 1 took us first through mountains, hills, and cattle ranches. Coming from Texas I never thought hills filled with nothing but grass and cows could look so good. It made me fantasize about being the Marlboro man. But what ranch would be complete without a farm, and when I say farm I mean miles and miles of farmland. Fields of celery, lettuce, broccoli, strawberries, and any other produce ... read more

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 I woke up a little before day light. I can tell the light is coming by first hearing the robins. The Jays start just as the light changes. It is the same every time I have camped along the ocean. It is my alarm clock. Debi is lying next to me very serene and beautiful but not ready to get up. I make coffee and walk across Highway 1. The ocean is overcast but the fog has lifted above the cliffs. I am the only one there with endless ocean all around me. I feel like a tiny speck in the universe of nature. The beaches here are very rocky. Every time a big wave comes in, the rocks roll back and make the most wonderful gurgling, tingling sound. Wedsday, May 02, ... read more

As you may have noticied we have been extremely busy over the last week and a bit... thanks to great company, food and catching up with family, friends, alcohol etc... After leaving the hotel in San Luis Obispo on the morning of the 15th we drove the coastal route (highway 1) all the way to Carmel Valley (where Elliot's Aunt and Uncle live). We had a great drive, making coffee stops of course and saw elephant seals, some local art, Big Sur, Carmel by the Sea and... read more

California Dreamin…….Big Sur We have been driving this coast for 2.5 weeks and it continues to entertain us with its grace and style. The whole coast has been beautiful, and when you add in the fact that there is sun, warm temperatures, beautiful flowers and birds everywhere; well you just cannot beat California! We arrived in Big Sur after a long drive from Santa Rosa. We had a reservation for Treebones.com resort. You can reserve Yurts or campsites there. They modeled themselves after the Oregon State Parks that have Yurts, just like the ones we stayed in at the beginning of our trip. We knew the weather would be good so we opt to put our own tent up. What a great idea as we were blessed with the best site on the property. The first ... read more

Today, I head into a region described by every guidebook as the most scenic in California. Given everything I have already seen in this state that is saying a great deal. The San Lucia Mountains rise directly on the California coast, creating a landscape of ocean waves crashing on towering cliffs. In the 1930s, the state blasted a paved road through those cliffs, creating one of the world’s most dramatic scenic drives. Today I explore the legendary Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur. I started by getting gas. Big Sur is incredibly rural, which means gas is hard to find and expensive. Having learned my lesson at Crater Lake (see ), I filled up the ta... read more

This entry is about a road, not a place. After our great time in Monterey, we headed South to Ventura on the Highway 1. We left pretty early, which made it for even a better drive. The sun was out there, but the fog was in full power hugging the coastline too. This made it for a very bizarre drive. The Highway One here is one more time anything else than a straight road. It's bend after bend after bend. I wish I would stop every two minutes to enjoy the scenery, but I still end up stopping every 5 minutes to get blow away by the beauty of the place. This is a paradise road to drive a Mustang on. It's a place where if google map tells me there is one hour drive, I ... read more

Cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway, California Highway 1, is a treat not to be missed. Magnificent cliffs, winding turns, gorgeous views around every corner, and endless breathtaking vistas, and stunning sunsets abound. From just south of San Francisco to Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel by the Sea, and Big Sur, the road is mostly along high ground, until you descend the twisted rolercoaster road into the San Simeon area. ... read more
