What a day! We went into San Francisco to go to Alcatraz and what a treat! First we had lunch in a restaurant on the pier, Butterfly. The meal was wonderful…the best we’ve had in a long time. Then we got on the boat to go out to Alcatraz. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the boat. This tour is so well done! It turned out to be one of the best experiences yet! There is an audio tour that is narrated by 4 ex-guards and 4 ex-inmates. The tape has background noises…cell doors slamming, inmates talking in the background. The prison has a lot of intact areas: cells, the dining halls, “the hole”. The history was fascinating! The actual island is only a short boat ride into the harbor. The walk up to the actual buildings is a very steep climb…all worth it. It was a wonderful. Afterward Bill, who didn’t come to Alcatraz, picked us up and gave us a quick tour of San Fran… All in all a great day!
Today’s Road Lesson: Don’t do the time if you can’t do the time.
