Last night we had another briefing covering our next few days of travel. This was conducted around a patio burner under a wooden gazebo overlooking the campsite pool surrounded by mountains - can think of worse places for a meeting! As we were told the journey for today would take awhile, we set off nice and early again. First stop was to give Ellie her breakfast, having researched last night on google maps the nearest petrol station. Although we have been equipped with a satnav we have now started using google maps as well, which we find clearer. After another fill up we headed off down Highway 1 to the beginning of the so called 'Big Sur', a very scenic piece of land shoehorned between the Santa Lucia Range and the Pacific Ocean. It was named ... read more

Well, today is day 8 and our last day in Avila Beach. Another morning of gorgeous and deep red and pastel sunrise. Up early this morning to enjoy the sunrise and workout before coffee and paper. Picture is of our resort. Our first stop was the Premium Outlet Mall in Pismo Beach. A relatively small mall with small selection. We have been spoiled with Anthem and the Outlets near Palm Springs, so no purchases. Lunch at Ventana Grill with broad vistas of the ocean. Excellent food. I had the pulled pork special and Susan the salmon sandwich. We did our final two wine tastings in Avila Beach bout not good enough to buy. Late afternoon at the Inn provided an owner's reception, rather lame with a bunch or the party of the opposite persuasion grossing about ... read more

Day 14 a Monterey to KOA Avila/Pismo beach, Distance Travelled - 169 miles Ah well a day that promised so much, certainly delivered but not quite in the way we were expecting. A 7am alarm call was required so we could de-camp, detach and depart the lovely Marina Dunes RV park and head the short 11 miles down US1 into Monterey Marina to pick up our whale watching trip. First surprise of the day was that Monterey marina was already buzzing with people and coaches at 8-15 in the morning but that was because the Celebrity Milenium cruise ship had arrived outside the harbour and was unloading its rag tag, fugitive fleet of travellers onto the docks via tender. The Monterey Bay whale watching leaves from the end of the pier in the Marina, and whilst ... read more

To the Beach Hello Everybody! We got back from Europe, picked up the RV and headed straight for the beach. We found a beautiful RV park that overlooked the ocean. The RV park didn't take reservations though, so we thought we'd have to dry camp without water, electricity or sewer for a night to get into a spot. To our surprise, there was only one RV in the 10 spots. To our utter dismay, the one RV spot that was parallel to the ocean was open and had our name all over it. We backed in and couldn't believe our eyes! We were staying for the maximum time of 14 nights and we enjoyed every minute of it. Check out some of the shots! We not only had views, we had sound as well. The waves ... read more
