16,000km in 40 days....tomorrow, we are returning our little Mustang toy to the airport in San Francisco. As you guess, this is not the last blog, there is one more to come! We drove all the way from Idaho Falls to Reno in one day. This is a long drive, but it goes even longer when you are 50km from Reno...and found out that the only highway ahead is closed, because of bush/forrest fires. It has been closed for at least 4 hours, could be closed for 2-3 more hours minimum.....thousands of people are stranded on that same highway...and the only way around, is a fun backtrack of at least 150km. We've learn our lesson...better back-track than wait...specially with that mess around. End result...instead of reaching our hotel in Reno at 5pm...we are there well after ... read more

We headed to Rodeo Drive, famous for its expensive fashion and jewellery shops. Pretentious? Give me the Holton Road in Barry with it's empty shops, roller shutter windows and beautiful rotund people any day! The kids were unimpressed. Then it was off to the end of Route 66 aka Santa Monica Pier. Then followed 8 miles of walking down the beach path and back to the weird and wacky Venice beach leavened with the beautiful canals - yes like the other Venice . Wack jobs are the Venice beach peddlars. Came back covered in tattoos...not! We trudged back to the car having watched the bikers, roller bladers, runners, joggers, skateboarders etc. Great afternoon free entertainment exercise and sun! Another drive thru the rush hour freeways to dine at Denny's before settling down to write the blog ... read more

Hello All, There will be a short intermission in Travel Blog Updates. There have been two deaths in my family and we have been on the road again, not for pleasure this time. Been in Los Angeles for a couple of days now. We spent a night in Long Beach because the hotels in San Diego went sky high due to the comicon convention; see the film 'Paul'. Long beach was lovely, we walked down to the pier where you can see the 'Queen Mary' ship which is now a floating hotel with resturants and a museum! Had an early night and in the morning got the metro right into downtown L.A, where we checked into The Sahara hotel on Sunset Boulevard. The hotel is ok but there is a mad rush in the morning for breakfast; too many people and not enough tables! Being a street away from Hollywood bv. meant that we could check out Manns chinese theatre and see the walk of fame and the hollywood ... read more
