From Grammy's point of view: On this day we slept in (6:30?) it was sunny and warm. We headed to the Military National Battelfield in Vicksburg, a civil war monument for the soliders that fought there. After a quick history lesson at the visitor center, we headed out. It was a 16 mile trail around the park, that everyone was enjoying including hikers, bikers and moms with strollers. The monuments for the men from different states, Iowa, Illinois,Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin to name a few. After the auto tour loop, we stopped at the U.S.S. Cairo, a Civil War era Ironclad ship. It rested on the bottom of the Mississippi River for over a hundred years, before being raised. It was turned into a Museum, and it was great the kids really enjoyed it. We loved ... read more

Hi All - Sunrise on Myrtle Beach - something we don't often see. Then to Columbus GA to pick up our camper on Friday, April 15. Got all of the details and hope we know how to disconnect the hitch - I think Doug will have to give us a crash course at the Grand Canyon. Then off to Cordova, AL dodging multiple tornados coming from all directions - last time we went thru with a camper we drove thru a hurricane! Then we packed the camper in torrents of rain - NOT GREAT FOR THE FIRST DAY! Today, the weather cleared and it was really warm in Memphis - 51! But we drove into warm weather and camped with blue skies and warmer weather! Getting a few things organized and packed into camper. On to ... read more

97 degrees at 10am in Sayre, OK. Leaving Sayre, OK headed to Perryville, AR to the Coffee Creek RV Resort. As we were traveling, Aleta got to see quite a few of her favorite things - - GRASSHOPPERS ABOUT 2 1/2 INCHES LONG. They were so tough, they hit the windshield and bounced off. I swear some came back again because the hit only made them mad. :-) If you ever travel this highway, you MUST stop at the Pig Out Palace in Henryetta, OK!!! This place is an awesome place to eat. 101 degrees just outside of Henryetta, OK and went up to 105 at 4:30pm just before the Arkansas line at Fort Smith, AR.... read more

There had been so much to do in Fort Smith that we hadn’t taken a drive eastward to visit the small towns along the way and the three nearby state parks, so Plan B went into effect. Instead of going north to Fayetteville we decided to head east and spend a week in the Russellville AR area. On Tuesday, June 1, 2010, we caught US 64 eastbound and stopped in Alma (the spinach capitol of Arkansas) to see the Popeye statue. The statue is metallic and outshines the painted Popeye statue we saw in Crystal City TX in March 2010. Our next stop was Ozark AR where we followed the railroad tracks to the Ozark Area Depot Museum right on the Arkansas River and within excellent viewing range of the 1931 Ozark River Bridge.
