When we arrived in Tucson it was very dry. They hadn't had rain in months. But, after the snowfall on Mt. Lemmon, the creek was filling up fast. It was such a transformation in the desert.

Touring the U of A Mirror Lab

This lab, located under the football stadium, produces large mirrors for telescopes. It is the only lab of its kind in the nation. This is a 27 ft.diameter mirror that is 4 ft. thick. It is in the process of being polished. Firing the mirrors and polihing them takes 4 years to complete.

A mirror furnace

This furnace is being built to fire the next giant mirror. When sealed, the liquid glass will be poured into the mold and the entire furnace will spin to distribute the liquid glass evenly. After being shipped to Chile, this mirror will be encircled by six others just like it to create an instrument with 10 times the accuracy of the Hubble Scope.

Happy Holidays!
Ron & Pam, Enjoyed the text and the pictures. I am pleased you are both having a good time. Jenna saw snow and went snowboarding in Wisconsin. She is back and Steven came in last night so the house feels "good." Enjoy the Holidays and I will see you soon. Take Care. Jim
