YUMA CROSSING BIKE TRAIL - Yuma Arizona

Location

From I-8 take the Winterhaven Drive/4th Avenue Exit and turn (right or left) south. After 0.5 mile turn left onto 1st St. Go 0.3 mile and turn left to 310 North Madison Ave (or GPS 32.727309 114.619554) This is known as Gateway Park

There is lots of parking and some shaded spots as well, under the bridge that connects with California over the Colorado River.

Since this trail is located within the city, there are of course many other places to access it from. Another good location is at 201 North 4th Avenue at the site of the Quartermaster Historical Depot. Here you will also find parking, tourist bureau, washrooms and the historical park. If you do not have bicycles with you, you can also rent them here for $10 per hour or $25 for the day. Bicycles are provided by Mr. B's Bicycles which is also located in Las Palmillas Shopping Centre at 1200 Castle Dome Avenue (928-783-6727)

The Trail

We parked at Gateway Park under the bridge, used the washrooms and filled our water bottles. We then walked along the river for about 10 minutes to the Quartermaster Depot, where you can pick up maps, get water and once again use the bathroom! We rented bicylces and biked back towards Gateway Park, passed under the interstate and a railway bridge and continued along the Yuma East Wetlands. For about 3 kilometres the path is paved and runs alongside a canal. Beyond that, the trail is gravel and we did not proceed to far on it.

Turning around we retured to Gateway Park, the Quartermaster Depot, under a highway and continued through an industrial residential area. Not very scenic but the path is smooth and very wide. We did not go to the end but our total round trip consisted of about 13 kilometres.

Food

If you have parked at Gateway Park, a short walk up North Madison to 250 South Madison, brings you to the Garden Cafe (928-783-1491.) Lunch is served outside under umbrellas and trees with a huge cage of budgies nearby or inside. They serve sandwiches, soups, burritos, salads, quiche and more. Service was good and so was the food. They are open October-May
