Day 8 – Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale - Nov 26, 2010 Today we went to see Taliesin West which was Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home in Scottsdale Arizona. It’s fantastic! We took the 90 minute tour. There were a lot of people there and every tour booked really fast. I was kind of surprised at how crowded the place was but after taking the tour I see why he draws a crowd with his architecture. There is a school of architecture there where many students of organic design study here. The students can even design a dwelling in the desert. There are tours also that take people out to see them. There is so much to see there and I definitely want to go back to see more of it. It’s fascinating. We also went to the ... read more

Beware of cameras on highways! Yes, they have them. Upon arriving back home from a trip to Tempe, we received a ticket from Arizona for speeding on the 146, a portion of the 10 leading into and out of Tempe (to/from San Diego). It showed a clear picture of the back of the car and also of the driver (me). We were flabbergast! As we had traveled 750 miles to/from Tempe in only 24 hours, yes we went faster on the freeways - who doesn't when traveling long distances? We went online to try to figure out what the cost was but had trouble with the site. We wrote them and requested a response. It's been days without a response. The ticket was for going faster than prudent or safe and the speed was listed at ... read more

Hi! I am sorry this blog has not been kept up as well as I intended. I have been busy and blogging is not my top priority- my relationship to God and secondly my family are and always will be. Nevertheless, I will try to do better at keeping this blog updated. Since my last blog things have progressed in some areas and in others slowed down considerably. I am possibly not leaving on the 21st of August. In order to leave then I would need to have all the necessary monthly funds pledged and accounted for... this is not happening. I have about 20% of what I need to live and teach in Turkey for the next 2 years. My work isn't paid by the school. I am going voluntarily to work with children whose ... read more

Bon Voyage Steve and Christine! This Travelblog is going to be about Steve and Christine's journey around the United States and Australia. We are going to be "roughing it." I'll be posting short stories, pictures and things we learned on a daily or weekly basis. (this depends on access to Internet) My first priority is gathering as much information as possible about our route, hotels, camp sites, coupons, fuel costs, and other things that I can't think of right now. ... read more

Hi Everybody: I have had my photo snapped for my passport. I actually look cute if I do say so myself. Thanks to Mama Kaye who thought to pray about this! I have also had my passport paperwork submitted for almost 2 weeks and if all goes well I should have it on or before July 10th. I have organized all my curriculum, prepared and purchased what I need for my bulletin boards, and also bought all but a few of the necessary household items they (my school recruiter and principal) recommended. I also finally have all the needed paperwork from my sending agency and will be sending my letter and support commitment cards out by Monday. God is so good and things are going so smoothly. He is an awesome God! Write more later... hope ... read more

Today is Monday, October 13, 2008 it is 3 a.m. and it is hard to say where we have been. In stilettos she dodges a baby carriage while heading toward the counter. I am trailing, wildly slinging a sleek tan leather bag over my left shoulder. At 1:15 in a bright western sky I am wide-eyed when I slap my Arizona ID onto the cold formica in plea for two first-class tickets on the 1:30 flight. The disheveled attendant shakes her head. “You know your flight lands at 3:30 and your return is at 4:00? Impossible.” My hand shimmies to my hip and I turn to walk into the bathroom; unsuccessfully struggling to muster hysterical laughter. In the mirror, my reflection taunts me; the journey bringing us face to face with ourselves. Piercing my thoughts, from ... read more

Hey Everyone, This past christmas break, one of my uncles said that i should still use this blog every so often to let everyone know how i am doing now that i am back to my regular life. So this is what i am doing now... Since I have been back, I have really noticed how much more positive things and outcomes to situations have been for me. Not to say that i had a lot of problems or anything like that before I went, but only now i see things a little differently. The experience allowed me to "grow up" a little bit, quite possibly in ways that most will never know. When you emerge in a new lifestyle the way that I did and it becomes "normal", upon returning to your old ways, you ... read more
