THE BASICS We definitely wound down for the last few weeks of our trip. Strange to think that for people still working, two and a half weeks might be a nice vacation. We spent a week in Flagstaff, but it was very windy and cool, and it rained, so we mostly enjoyed nestling inside the RV. Finally headed south, but since it was Columbus Day weekend, we couldn't get a campsite in Sedona. Serendipity: we camped for several days in Cottonwood, not far south of Sedona. Had unusually good meals there. At last, on to Phoenix, where we divided our efforts between readying the RV for storage and visiting my brother Johnny and his wife Katy. With them, we attended the Arizona State Fair, visited the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park (wonderful!), and I had my first experience ... read more

We had 2 great days in Phoenix with Bob's family. Brother Bill invited almost the entire clan who live close-by to his wonderful home for steaks on the grill. It was so much fun to see nieces and nephews and to meet great-nieces! Brother Bill & Tracie have a lot of toys, including my all time favorite Galaxians video game. He's a collector of "good toys" so fun was had by all. (He has bigger toys too but the boats will have to wait until our next visit). The second day we spent with Sister Nancy and her grand-daughter, 5 year old Sedona at our pool and out for pizza. She was so adorable, makes me look forward from an announcement for one of my own, but hey, kids, if you're reading, no pressure here!... read more

Bob's sister, Barb, got us an Air BNB about a mile away from her house, near LAX in Westschester portion of LA. She has a lovely home with a beautiful garden and two precious (really) rescue dogs, Blossom and Daisy. We met some of her great friends and spent time looking at old family photos in the afternoon, then went to dinner in Santa Monica with Barb's dear friend, Laurel, who is President & CEO of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce. It was a lovely evening, a beautiful sunset and great conversation, ending with a walk on their boardwalk. We were sad to leave, but not for long because we are heading to Phoenix, where it is raining of all things! There, we will see a large portion of the rest of Bob's family for ... read more

Distance driven today: 195 miles / 314 km Cumulative distance driven: 3,890 miles / 6,260 km Today’s trip: Flagstaff, Arizona, to Phoenix Arizona Schools with donated Kindle e-readers visited: 1 Motorcycle service stops: 1 The morning was spent with Tom Drumm, principal of the Flagstaff Junior Academy charter school. Just like the other schools I have stopped at along this trip, the principal and I spent a few hours walking through the technical and educational implementation of the Kindle e-readers we have donated to the school. Tom also brought one of the school IT admins into the conversation, which was really great. As always, there was some confusion around how user accounts and devices are actually related, and how to best manage the relationship between them. It took me a while to explain the concept of ... read more

Greetings from "the road" - a road we've longed to journey down again! We spent the past week visiting my family in Phoenix, Arizona, but since we drove there from Colorado (about 700 miles or 1100 km) we got to see some pretty spectacular scenery along the way. It's one of those roads less traveled - even for many Americans - down through Four Corners and across the vast desert expanse of northern Arizona. We began our trip with a drive west and south through Colorado. I would love to write an enthralling description of the San Juan mountains and the majesty of Ouray, Silverton, and Durango, but alas, our drive consisted of six hours of rain and snow. It's sort of a tragedy, as this part of Colorado is considered by many to be the ... read more

Good Morning Friends, Well, we are back from an amazing 6+ months of traveling Asia and South America with a little western US and Mexico thrown in. As we settle back into our "real" lives we're continuously reminded of the many things we have to be grateful for. We have seen beautiful places with charming, fascinating and wonderfully helpful people. We have seen the artistry and intelligence of thousands of years of people inhabiting this beautiful earth. We have been touched by total strangers who reached out to help us when we were lost or confused or sometimes just to talk. In all the months of traveling we never had one bad experience. Yes, sometimes our adventures were uncomfortable or slightly off-putting because we didn't understand the culture or the language. In China a guide took ... read more
